Pulling the garbage can back into the garage earlier and encountered a snake. It was not his lucky day. He tried to outrun me in the garage but I have the fastest broom in the west. (Not the one I ride.) I finished him off with an old cast iron IRON that we use as a doorstop. "The only good snake is a dead snake." :p Now he's a "good snake."

Atta girl! Snakes don't belong in garages. That is a nice doorstop. Those old irons have lots of uses.

I probably would have allowed him to live had he stayed outside in the mulch where his creepy butt belongs. I don't want to be looking for snakes when I go to get stuff out of the deep freeze.

We have several of those old irons; I used to collect that kind of junk for some reason.

So did I. I have one of those kerosene-powered ones. I still have about 50 crates filled with antiques mostly kitchenware, pottery, and glass. I collected it over 40 years on trips all over the west. I was saving it for retirement and now I would be lucky to give it away.

I used to like to decorate with that old stuff but now I don't want to dust it.

Me neither and that is why more of it gets put in a crate every time I dust. :)

Hopefully you won't have to deal with them, G. I encounter garter snakes fairly frequently in the back yard and in the flower beds; they don't bother me but I hate snakes, too. I'm just not going to deal with them in the garage... it's attached to the house and NO THANKS. I don't know what kind this one was today; he was mostly black and about 2' long and fairly skinny. I don't know what the shape of his head was because it was flattened after our encounter.

That was one nice thing about living on the Big Island (Hawaii) - no snakes. So far, in this tour of Florida, I've only had to deal with one in the past year and a half, and it was just a baby- about 8" long. It was on the patio, and I just relocated him to a safe place.

You're a better man than me, Hoot Crawford!

My son lived on Hawaii but had to relocate since he lived too close to the volcano that was erupting a few years ago. Now he's in Oregon.

As it happens, I have one of those. Very heavy, indeed.
