You inspired me to go look. There really isn't much help outside of the person having made a good list and using their tax returns (assuming that they even file and assuming that all accounts had taxable income.) -There is an organization to contact to see if a life insurance policy exists, but it's not a comprehensive resource. -There is an organization to contact for unclaimed pensions, but if the pension was being claimed (checks or direct-deposited), they would not be listed there. -There are services that will do searches for abandoned accounts with financial institutions, but that's picking the bones clean. -The IRS makes no mention of using them as a resource to get records -All mentions of 1099/1098 forms imply that they are sent via the mail, but that's only if there may be taxable income. It looks like whoever does my estate is gonna have a hard time of it. edit to add: This is just my cursory look and not a legal opinion. If I were unsure of what I was doing (or if I had all the data), I would contact an estate attorney for guidance.
Power is still out and estimated repair time has changed to 3 a.m. Next door neighbors (who have a generator) brought us some hot lasagna. I thought that was nice of them but we ate dinner earlier since we knew the Comcast repair guy was coming. Guess I'll go take a bath by candlelight.
My husband and I have been working in the yard, mostly moving big patio potted plants into the garage and setting up fluorescent lights for the hard freeze expected tomorrow night and for several nights. I have to say, we are getting too old for this crap. We have to use a dolly to move some of the biggest plants. The recent power outage and impending hard freeze have us talking about the generator... AGAIN. At least we have a fireplace and a gas stove that make it somewhat bearable if we lose power due to the grid failing again. I keep plenty of candles, batteries, and a couple of Halo Bolt emergency power kit things that will run lamps, charge phones, etc. so we are as prepared as we can be... but I still want that generator!
Is there such a thing as a quiet generator? Renovation is going on in the house behind us and they had their generator going on through the night for at least two weeks straight.
You mean there's after-dark construction in a home with no electricity and they are powering their tools? Or are they powering the house with a generator pending connection of power? I am unaware of any quiet generator. The gas ones (portable as well as whole-house) are all pretty loud. I think even a quiet fuel source like nuclear is gonna make noise when the turbines spin. I'd get some ear plugs to use until they're finished (CVS sells them.)
I only heard it at night. I believe the workers were staying there at night. This is has been the first week that I haven't heard it going. Hopefully the work is done.
The house behind mine (when I lived outside of DC) was bought by a construction guy as a fixer-upper. Ten years (and 2 barking dogs) later, he was still fixing-upping. I'll never understand: 1-People who have no consideration for others 2-People who can live with their own noise that disturbs others living 3 blocks away
I don't believe there is, though the generator in our motorhome wasn't too bad. Of course everything in that cardboard box was loud so I probably just didn't notice.
