When I watch my daughter do the self checkout at Walmart she never seems to have a problem. When I try to do it, I always have to get someone to help me out anyway so I'd rather just go through the regular check out lines.
Worse than the self-checkouts are the items now routinely kept locked-up, requiring an employee to respond, who then must find the guy with the key, and then.....prove I'm not a kid at 75! Home Depot demanded my Driver License, wanted to copy my address down in a log book to buy Contact Cement! I told the guy, first, go look in the Hobbies and Crafts department at how many "sniffable" items were on unlimited display, and second, "go fly a kit!". Frank
I didn't know this was becoming an issue. These are not really things I buy but I've had to get Sudafed from the pharmacy counter with my drivers license for years. I asked once how much can people buy regarding the Sudafed and the clerk stated daily. That doesn't sound too regulated to me if that is the truth.
I have used the self checkout one time and I had to cake for help. I don't care for them. I feel similar to the way Ms Martin put it.
@Bill Boggs The avatar I'm using now is my Halloween one. I'm on my broomstick flying around making sure y'all behave yourselves. It's a full time job. Were you talking about somebody else named Ms. Martin?
And I'm like "get your blank-ing hands off my stuff!" That's why I use self checkout. One complaint though, they could keep them wiped down a little better.
When you shop, do you prefer to go through the Self Check Out area and bag your own or do you prefer to use the Store Cashier Line and let them bag for you?
I never do self check-out. We left Sam's Club because, probably trying to encourage people to use their self-checkout counters, Sam's would habitually have no one at the regular counters. We left a cart full of stuff standing and signed up for a BJ's card, which was only about three-fourths of a mile away.
@Beth Gallagher Exactly. The self-check is pretty quick for us, when we can use it. Today, could not. Re-filled jugs with water at machine ourselves, do not know code entry for refills (often, the checker doesn't either). Safeway has no self-checkout at all. Smith's (Kroger) has about 8 registers in theirs, a single employee is about, if needed, and people mainly seem to like it. Frank
