Do you see the above picture of the Samsung that you posted in April , Hal ? You must have that device since you posted a picture of it, and then said that you have downloaded your pictures onto it. Possibly, this is not a cellphone, but some sort of device similar to an Apple iPod, that can do most of what a cellphone does, except that it is not an actual phone. I know nothing about Samsung devices, and I thought it was a phone. Maybe someone else knows what you posted the picture of ? You can get a smartphone and not register it, but that seems like it would be a lot more complicated than just using the device that you already have the pictures on, Hal; plus smartphones (good ones) will cost several hundred dollars, and that is a lot to spend just to store photographs. HOLD EVERYTHING ! I'd like to retract this entire thread, because I located the Samsung device that I had talked about and pictured in my April post. It was hiding in plain sight on the work table in my hobby room, connected to its charger! So I want to apologize to you, you, you, (not you), you, you, and you for taking the time to tell me about my alternative choices for storing pictures. You were right all along, Yvonne! Hello, I'm considering a Smart Phone (but not too seriously), because I've owned a cell phone for 16 years and have only used it twice, calling my Wife from my car. I keep it in my car for reporting accidents to the CHP, which I've never had to do, but I keep it alive by buying a TracFone prepaid card every 90 days for $20. I don't even know my cell phone's phone's number! Now, I assume that a Smart Phone would cost me more than $20 for 90 days if I occasionally used it to surf the Web, wouldn't it? I currently pay $103 per month for LandLine phone service and Internet service combined. I see people everywhere showing pictures to friends by wiping the screen with their fingers, and I've got over 700 photos that I could load onto a smart phone and have all my pictures with me anywhere I go! So what's my "smart" move? Thanks, Hal
We have had you ask this question at least twice before, @Hal Pollner , with everyone trying to help you out, and you ending up saying that you don’t want a smartphone after all. Several times you have posted pictures of a Samsung device that you own, which would be fine to store your pictures on and then you can show them to people and not have to actually pay for a smart phone that you wouldn’t use anyway. This is probably still sitting in your office on either the desk or the little table in there, and will do exactly what you want it to do. You just need to connect it with your computer and transfer the pictures.
Now that you refresh my memory, @Yvonne, I see the picture of my Samsung player, but if I wanted to remotely access the Internet, I would still need a Smart Phone. I may be late in joining the 21st Century, but if I did want to go the Smart Phone route, what else would this entail? The one that is shown should hook up to the internet but you have to have an internet provider. The only real problem I see is that like computer programs, cell phones have to be updated and there is a possibility yours might be too old but then, I’m no computer expert. One good thing is that if you get an internet provider you can get off of lan (presuming you have lan because you have a land line) and get onto a faster and better provider and probably for less cost.
Your Samsung is like a smartphone, but (as near as I can tell) it does not function as a phone. I think that it is similar to what Apple makes that is called an iPod. Except for not being able to make phone calls, it does everything else that a smart phone does . I see that it has a camera function, so you can take pictures with it, and “gallery” is where your pictures would be stored. There is an email tab, as well as things like YouTube, and music, where you can store your songs. If you look at the very bottom, it says internet, and that is where you would go to surf the web. If you charge up this device, and go to settings, you should be able to connect over your home WiFi connection, and then you can get used to using it, and should be able to transfer your pictures. I think that this would be a good way for you to try this smart technology, and still use the phone that you are used to using. Once you decide whether you enjoy it, then you can spend the money to get one that is also a phone if you wanted that. In the meantime, this device costs you nothing to use it, and should do about everything you are hoping for.

Look at your modem and see if there is an antenna on it, which would mean that it can connect to WiFi. Just because you are not using Wifi does not mean that you do not have it, it just means that you are not using it because you have wires to everything. Most modems nowadays have Wifi because that is what most people use for everything now, so there is a good chance that yours will have this connection. If there is an antenna on your modem, then get your little Samsung device, and go to settings (little gear icon). It should say Wifi, and show the little connection icon, and then it should show your internet connection name. If it shows this, then click connect, and put in the password for your internet connection, and the Samsung should be connected and ready for internet.
