Joni James had a great voice and could sing anything. She had a sick husband which put a hold on her career and so many folks have missed out on hearing her.
From what I read she'd 91. I have her Greatest Hits CD I'm going to look for others to see if they're available.
I have many of her albums as well. She was very popular back in the 50's. This is one of my favorites from when I was in the Air Force.
Somethin' Smith and the Redheads was a fun group to listen too. You know, Tony, there was some terrific music back then and many were good dance numbers as well. At least we knew what the lyrics meant without all the politics and hatred heard in Grunge and Hip-Hop today. Incidentally, I do not consider the latter two music at all.
I couldn't agree more. I miss the music of that era. Our worst groups and singers we're Head and Shoulders above what we have today. Remember Snooky Lanson ( not sure of the spelling) he performed on the Hit Parade on TV. He was never considered to have a good voice but I'll take him over anything we got today.
Oh, indeed I do, Tony. He and Dorothy Collins every week with the Hit Parade. Got so that I hated Harbor Lights due to it coming in week after week and one or the other of those two singing it. Later, the Platters did a fine job with it.
That's true a hit could be played week after week as long as it was on the the top of the charts. With the platters I couldn't wait for the next song to come out, I think I played my prayer till I wore it out. What a great time and memories. I'm glad you remembered Dorothy Collins name, there were others also my memory is not that good.
I distinctly remember these two, Tony. Actually, when Your Hit Parade began back in the 40's on the radio, Frank Sinatra and Doris Day were the lead singers. Of course their popularity took them on to much loftier heights as these were true talents.
Speaking of the Platters, I'd always loved The Three Suns version of Twilight Time but when the Platters released it, wow!
I had a few three Sun albums back then I enjoyed them. I believe Gisele MacKenzie was also on the Hit Parade.
