    On the subject of changed lyrics, The Kinks had to change one line of Lola because the BBC would not allow them to sing "it tastes just like Coca Cola." The BBC, being a non-commercial channel, would not permit anything that could be construed as advertising, so Ray Davies amended the offending bit to "cherry cola".

    What I always found amusing about that was that the song's theme - about a transvestite - was a much racier subject than somebody casually mentioning Coca Cola, but the BBC did not seem to mind that. Or perhaps the powers that be just didn't cotton on to what the song was about.

    The Bee Gees were formed in 1958, and achieved significant popularity by the late 1960s. Some of their best stuff was in the 1960s.
