I don't have a tattoo. As a young man in the military I resisted pressure from fellow GI's to get a tattoo. Several times when everyone in my circle all got tattoos, I refused. Early on as a patriotic young man I did consider a tattoo. An uncle wore a "Death Before Dishonor" tattoo on his forearm. I am not opposed to anyone wanting or having a decent-looking tattoo. But these body, neck and facial tattoos I find repulsive. I wouldn't want someone representing my company who wore those ugly, distasteful markings. But today I suppose it is everyone to his own cup of tea.
I remember, a number of years ago, before rulings came that companies could no longer discriminate against hiring due to tattoos, a young lady in Los Angeles had an interview for an Executive Outside Sales job. She was told the starting salary was $80k a year, with a Sign-On bonus. They seen a couple of visible tattoos on her arms and told her straight up they wouldn't hire her unless the tattoos came off. There was no discussing this, the company was quite firm about what they had told her. She didn't argue, simply said "ok". She found a doctor in Los Angeles that done just that...….removed tattoos. Her parents paid for the removals and she got the job. The doctor stated in an interview that he has done many of these "removals" to young folks who were offered a job, under the same condition this young girl was...…remove or no hire. Don't know what Sear's tattoo and body piercings policies are today, but a few years ago a sales clerk told me that he couldn't wear his ear ring during working hours. At lunch he could put it in, but that was it. I'm not totally sure, but I think even "high end" stores today have to hire people with tattoos and body piercings. Perhaps not all of them do, but I'm sure there are some. Walmart is very famous for hiring folks with numerous tattoos, but haven't seen any facial or neck ones there.
This topic has been discussed many times on here.... http://www.seniorsonly.club/threads/tattoos-like-dislike-dont-care.7109/#post-181995
But, to most of us, facial and neck tattoos definitely aren't the same as that thread I done some time back.. There is one thing about numerous tattoos on arms, legs, feet and back.……..but, facial and neck ones are really scary and just how necessary? The "Freedom of Expression" thing is just a cop-out to me for getting any of them, especially the facial and neck ones.
I only posted one example but I remember a thread that had a pic of someone with his whole, face covered and even horns implanted. My answer is the same wether its body or face....I don't like them, unless small and hidden. I could picture myself getting something very small in memory of someone but that's it. But if I liked them I would get them because I feel it's my body....and I can do what I please and that includes ending my life if it becomes unbearable. Nobody has to like my choice and I have to live with the consequences....
Agree, face and neck should be avoided. Its sending out a message which is a negative one I would avoid a person that has them
There isn't a single tattoo in my whole family, I'd certainly shock them if I got even a discreet one. Just as an aside...no divorces either.
I am sure that companies still discriminate against people with tattoos though, but simply don't tell them why someone else was being hired instead.
I would recommend investing in tattoo removal services. The face and neck ones tend to get really unsightly when the skin ages due to the fact that the skin--particularly on the neck--is thin and tends to wrinkle and sag, Combine that with the fading of the ink....
@Cody Fousnaugh My wife's brother in law left her sister after 34 years of marriage, in favor of a woman 30 years his junior, having large shaved areas of her scalp covered with tattoos. He himself looks like a throw-back from the hippies days, scraggly dirty-looking beard now down to his waist, hair in back same. Perhaps such weirdness thrives upon itself. Frank
Ten years ago when I started working for the big box store I use to work for, you could have a tattoo as long as it was covered. And absolutely no face piercings with hardware. By the time I left a couple months back, those rules were no longer in effect. Although I still have not seen face tattoos there.
