So Bobby, the antenna needs to be plugged into an electrical outlet nearby wherever it's place, is that correct? I don't have outdoor electrical, with the exception of the balcony, which is on the back side of the house and opposite end of the balcony from the direction where the television stations are located. I used the two previous antennas indoors, against the front wall, which is the closest wall to the big city. I had to look up a reed and prince screwdriver. I had never heard of that, and wasn't even aware the two differed. Now I'll have to inspect every screwdriver to see which I have. Oy, you'd think in 2016 it would be easier to obtain programming. Ha @Ken Anderson I figured you probably wouldn't have an issue, but wanted to call it to your attention just in case. You know how some forum owners can be, very finicky and punitive.
Well at least I have an outdoor electrical outlet. My bedroom has patio doors that open to the back patio and backyard and right outside the door is an outlet. One TV is also in that bedroom....at least I got that going for me. The screwdrivers I might have and probably do, I have lots of tools in the garage from my husband and my ex, I just don't know what they are called. I usually use a butter knife for a screwdriver and metal meat tenderizer for a hammer. I do have a Phillips screwdriver also and know the name of that one. What's next?? Call the plumber to clean the gutter?
No Diane and Chrissy, you do not need an exterior electrical outlet. The small control box for the antenna movement and amplification/modulation is inside next to the TV and has to be plugged in. Other than that, except for the AAA batteries for the remote control there is no other electric. As a side note: I had forgotten that someone who posted earlier asked if the antenna control box had room for an additional tv and the answer is yes. Plus, you can use a splitter wherever you like to feed additional TV's. The unit comes with a 40' coax cable complete with end fittings. Another side note: Sorry about the Reed and Prince thing. Reed and Prince is like a Phillips but has a sharp point which is great for smaller screws. The Phillips has a snub nose which is what most Phillips type screws call for and generically speaking a #2 will do the job. Both are numbered from 1 through 4, the smallest number being the smaller head screwdriver. But, in all cases if it fits, use it.
Thanks, Bobby, that's good to know. That definitely increases the possibilities. I don't understand what splitters are, nor how they work, but I'll have to look into it. I would probably hook it up the same was as before, with both front room televisions (upstairs and downstairs) being connected, and using the one back here with just a roku or other device. Unless there would be some way to hook into the antenna wirelessly, I would probably have to buy two, since I wouldn't want to run a wire/cable all across the room and up the stairs.
So ... after the $145 run ...did you really get a plumber to fix a toilet for $12? I need your plumber!
Yes but it was $145 + $12. I called them out on a busy rainy night and their price is $85 for just coming out and whatever the price is to fix the problem. After hours emergency price is $145 just to come out. I thought I had an emergency. So after they yold me I didn't have a burst pipe I had to think fast. Wasn't going to pay $145 for nothing. I did have a problem with my toilet in the master bedroom, so I asked him to look at that. The problem was a $12 part that he had to run to OSH to get. But wait, there's more The next day I notice my bathroom rug is wet so I call them. They say if it's the problem is related to what they fixed the night before they won't charge $85 for coming out. Of course the problem was not related just a coincidence that something else broke on the toilet and it would cost $85 plus parts. This is where my crying skills come in handy and I didn't have to pay anything for that.
Suspicious me, but I wouldn't/couldn't believe that it wasn't related, the way it played out! ... Glad the crying worked, because I don't think you owed anything anyway.. JMO
The last time a part on my toilet broke, it so happened that my neighbors across the street had put one out for the large trash pick up. I only needed the flapper and chain, so my friend and I went over and stole those parts from their discarded toilet, and installed them here on my broken one. That's probably the only time that something like that has worked out in my favor, and it was pretty amazing timing.
I am so angry I can't even see straight. Just looked at my online bank statement and AT&T just upped my bill by $25!
I just talked to them and the best I could do was get more channels (300) for about $20 less for the next 3 months. I took that offer and will be calling them after I sort things out and will get rid of them! Maybe for everything and go with a promotional with a different company. Grrrrrrrrrr I will now be watching my mailbox for offers, and AT&T just lost a 10 yr loyal customer.
It looks like no matter which company we are getting service from, they are ALL doing the same thing, @Chrissy Page ! You have u-verse, I have Comcast, and Diane has a different one (not sure which company she has); but jut here in this forum, that is at least three of us who have all had our cable bill jump up recently. And mine did it after I thought I had it straightened out with them around Christmas . Cable is going to end up pushing away their customers , it would seem like. People will either go with satellite, or just cut off cable completely and use an antenna, or just watch the programs they can get on websites like Netflix and Hulu+. Our bill is not due until the end of the month; so we still have a few more days before we decide whether to turn off everything, or just the cable TV.
Yes, I told her that I barely watch TV and what I do watch I can watch on my ipad. I'm seeing if there are any $100 for all 3 services for the first year like AT&T had when I joined. It's ridiculous what they are doing. I tell her I watch 2 channels and the only deal is for me to get 100 more channels that I will NEVER watch. They need to do better by their customers. I was going out now I have to cool off first I'm so angry.
Yvonne, if you are talking satellite, as in DirecTV .. they are now a subsidiary of AT&T ... can't win there! I mentioned earlier, if you cut out the cable and go with an antenna for TV, but keep their service for Internet only, they make life unpleasant doing that too. .. I know.. They will toy with you every which way they can!
@Bonnie Thomas , yes I know AT&T bought Direct TV so can't go there. If I do cut out TV totally I may have to go elsewhere for Internet. I also need to find out exactly what I need a phone line for because I can surely do without my home phone...never use it. So, basically I'm paying $180 for internet and TBS right now. I need to see if I can fall asleep without a TV going and go from there.
