    Good afternoon to all-

    Mr. Anderson-

You seem to be very good at making claims which have, as far as I can see, very little basis in fact. I was a member of the Arkansas Education Association, the Missouri Education Association, and the Alabama Education Association, and I can assure you, none of these "teacher unions" supported illegal immigration or "leftist progressive movements"- whatever in hell that means.
All of the teacher unions I have had any contact with were totally nonpolitical bodies, and I joined them for the insurance protection they offered- not for any sort of political guidance. I don't need that sort of guidance from anyone, thank you.

you all be safe and keep well- Ed

    Oh, really?
"The National Education Association (NEA) is the largest labor union and the largest white-collar representative in the United States. It represents public school teachers and other support personnel, faculty and staffers at colleges and universities, retired educators, and college students preparing to become teachers. The NEA has just under 3 million members and is headquartered in Washington, D.C. The NEA had a budget of more than $341 million for the 2012–2013 fiscal year." -- Wikipedia

By the way, my source is the NEA.

You have a right to your opinion, but it's just that - an opinion, and often wrong.

    Good afternoon to all-

Well, Mr. Anderson, again I thank you for allowing me the right to my opinion- that's good of you.

And yes, i am a strong teacher union supporter. I'm a strong union supporter in general.
It just so happens that I do support many of the points that NEA promotes- not all, but several/
No teacher is compelled or required to join either NEA or the local union, and I knew teachers who for political reasons did not join. They still received the benefits of the union,.

Once again, your going off topic to attack the NEA is not helpful. the NEA has nothing to do with what happens at any local public school. The teachers unions exist to protect teacher- who do need personal and professional protection from time to time, believe me- and any political opinions expressed are made in the interest of teachers and students.

    good day to all- Ed

Well, whatever good the union here in Alabama does I really don’t know since we rank around 42nd place for the ACT scores.

That's nice, @Ed Marsh, but that's not what you said. My response was to the totally bogus idea that teachers' unions were nonpolitical, and I used the NEA as an example because they are, by far, the largest teachers' union in the country. While I was a member of the UPIU, our Local wasn't political either, but we weren't so naive as to believe the national UPIU was nonpolitical. For all practical purposes, the UPIU and the NEA are arms of the Democrat Party. Clearly, you are unwilling or unable to carry on a discussion with anyone who doesn't accept whatever the hell you say as the truth, even when it's in direct opposition to the truth. Go ahead and post away, but I don't think I'll be wasting any more time with you. You're not the resident expert on education. You're simply a guy who once had a job as a teacher, and that's fine, but I have probably had more experience in education than you have.

To concur, the 3 million membership of the NEA formed a PAC which totally endorsed Joe Biden for the 2020 elections. That said, they would have also backed Bernie Sanders if for whatever reason Biden had to withdraw.

    Good evening to all-

Bobby- what's your point here? So, should teacher unions not be allowed to support a political candidate? And I would certainly hope the union would support ANYONE over the incumbent individual.

you all be safe and keep well- Ed

Mr. Anderson- I doubt very seriously you have more or as extensive an experience in education as I, but that really doesn't matter, now does it? And I will carry on a discussion- and a civil discussion, I might add- with anyone. But I really don't give a hoot in hell if you "waste any more time with me". I have dealt with stubborn and wrong-minded individuals all my life- you're nothing new to me.

you all have a good evening- Ed

In my way of thinking, unless everyone in a union has agreed to endorse a political candidate then that union has no right investing union money on said candidate.
No one can tell me that all 3 million or so teachers in the NEA wanted Biden to win the catbird seat so to indicate that the NEA in it’s entirety is behind a candidate is a very blatant lie.

On the other hand, if a union passed the plate asking for donations specifying what the money was for and invested that amount and only that amount to back a candidate then all is well in my book as long as that union indicates that the PAC money is from willing donors with each donor not exceeding the limit.

What Ed doesn't seem to understand is that national unions are not represented by the local unions, nor do they necessarily represent the local unions. He thinks that the teachers he talks to in the faculty lounge are representative of the Union. Then again, given his strong global progressive politics, he probably doesn't consider his political views to be political. To him, whatever he believes to be true is the fact. When I was the VP of our UPIU Local, both myself and the President of our Local voted Republican, but that's not at all what the national UPIU Union represented.

    Dunno.
I’d be highly ticked if a union I belonged to used my union dues to back a political candidate especially if that candidate isn’t whom I desired anyway.

I remember during the campaign when Biden told a factory worker that he didn’t work for him and I remember how he said it.
The thing is, if a Union leader at that factory said, “you work for me”, Joe Biden would have agreed and moreover, kissed the rear end of the person who said it.

I’m hard and firm that no Union should be able to have any say in a Federal or local election primarily because they have no right to speak for every employee under their umbrella.
