Mornin'. It's gonna be a sizzling 90+ humid degrees today. I'm just gonna sit by the AC mostly. I may stir enough to get something to eat. Grocery's are coming later.
So, my happy little city on the east side of the state seems to be copying the much larger quad cities 35 miles upriver. They experience shooting/stabbings every weekend and some weekdays. My town is beginning to follow suit. We had another shooting a few days ago. If I was younger and got out more, I'd be getting a carry permit.
Did I ever tell you about my friend Don? I know lots of Don's, but this particular Don was somewhat skilled. He liked to build pistols. Nothing fancy. Most of them looked like the photo.
th (16).jpe Don had other skills too. He could make keys that would open many types of locks. Once, he was jailed overnight for some little misstep. When the jailer went to release him, the cell door was already opened. Don was still there though, laughing his a** off at the jailer's expression.
There's a lot more about Don I was tempted to write about, but maybe another time.
Be careful out there. Nothing is what it seems.

Good Morning. A hot one here also, with lots of Southern humidity.
A shot from my walk in yesterday, humidity haze over the downtown area.
( from the pedestrian bridge over I-40 )

Good Morning everybody. We have had some nice, cool if albeit rainy days. However, the heat is starting to build again here, I can feel it. I think it is oging to be up around 90 today, and downhill from there. Then we will get some soaking rains that will bring the temp down. Going to see about a short term job today...gotta feed the kitty! Have a good one!!!!

Pretty pic @Tim Burr. It would be nice if they had some pedestrian bridges here, there'd probably be less people killed trying to cross the highways.

@Ike Willis My problem with carry permits is that I feel it's an infringement on the 2nd Amendment rights, and I don't trust the government with the information of who owns what. I prefer them to not know. It does seem that even quiet small towns are seeing an uptick in violent crime. This used to be a pretty quiet area, with a few rough around the edges kind of people, but that seems to have changed, with more and more of the lowlifes moving down from the city and trying to 'make a living' by targeting decent people.

Good Morning, Y'all. It's another hot one. Just filled up the stray kitties' water bowl with fresh water and ice cubes. I'm glad I have an ice maker, otherwise that could get expensive. I've already got the chores started, and by the time the heat of the day truly hits, I'll be ready for a siesta. Hope everyone's having a good day.

Maybe we need an afternoon thread since so many of us try to get our chores and business done in the morning's cooler hours.

I studied taxes back in the late '80, and I thought they were pretty easy to understand. But that is where the reasoning stopped, and for the poor citizen, the confusion starts. I've spent over a year running back and forth between the different offices trying to get all the unfinished business tax issues Michael left behind concluded. So at 7:00 am I headed for the fourth tax office which was 45 miles across the Houston.

Then I drove 15 mile to my pharmacy to pick up a $12.99 perscription, from there I drove 33 miles to the KIA dearship for my Sportage's regular maintenance, and of course I had to drive home, another 57 miles.

That was 150 miles of driving around Houston in 110 heat, and super piercing sun rays.

That is one of the biggest reasons I want to move to a small town. I'm tired of all the hassle that comes with such a large city.

I think a nap is in order for me now.

That's how many miles it takes to get to my daughter's house and I'm exhausted when I get there.

I agree, Ina ...that's too much driving and you have to think of the future if for some reason you can't drive.

Everything is so close to me that I could walk if I had to except for the heat and I'm lazy. My daughter filled my car with gas for me when I left her house on June 7 and when I got to Fresno I had more than a half tank of gas.

I go out almost every day to some store or other and I'm still on that tank of gas! Will have to get some soon though.

Mornin'. Another hot, humid 90+ degree day ahead. This one has a chance of thunderboomies, so maybe, if we act just right, we'll see some rain.
All this heat reminds me of the summer of 1988. I was working on the IDOT, doing all sorts of road work. One day we had to clear the mud away from the end of a roadside culvert. I was in the ditch with a shovel. There seemed to be no air, just heat. I couldn't breath, and never been so hot. The boss noticed I looked about ready to hit the deck and made me get out of there. Then they started taking turns. Each of the crew would jump in, shovel a few shovels of dirt, and the next guy would take a turn.
Another time I had been mowing weeds along and in roadside ditches on a tractor with a pull behind mower. The tractor had no sunshade, and on the second or third day, it got a flat tire. I had to take off the tire, then radio for someone to come and take the tire to get fixed, then replace it. No shade anywhere there. No breeze either. Just sun and heat.
The best day was the afternoon we tore out a beaver dam on a creek near the road. Being the 'new guy' I was ordered to set the hook on the end of a cable attached to a tractor on the road. To do that, I had to get in the water, go under, and position the hook under the dam.
Then, I had to work the rest of the afternoon in wet, muddy clothes.
One hot afternoon we were working on a road through a small burg. We stopped for a break. I noticed a bar less than a block away, and made my way to it. I needed a bathroom break. The bar maid took pity on me, since I was soaking wet with sweat and red as a beet from the heat and sun. When I came out of the restroom, she treated me to a pitcher of ice cold beer, on the house.
The rest of the crew went back to work and eventually the boss noticed me missing. Someone told him to check the bar.
Boss comes in, told me he could fire me on the spot. I still had half a pitcher of beer left. We finished it together, then he sent me back to work with the warning to never do that again.
    And that's how it was.:)

    Good Morning, Y'all.

We post here at other times, too, @Ina I. Wonder. I created the thread so we'd have a place to come and greet one another, and I named it Good Morning because it was morning when I created it. Some are in different times zones, so their mornings come when our afternoons/nights are, so post away whenever the inclination strikes. I know what you mean about all the driving. When I was working, I was always exhausted from driving all over the place, and I definitely don't miss that. I'd love to live in a smaller town, where everything was close. I do have some things close by here, but it's getting too crowded, and traffic has increased significantly down here, as well.

The sun is blazing across the sky as I type. I wish I could capture it, but neither my camera or phone seems capable of doing so. This week has flown by. I can't believe it's Thursday already, and I'm way behind on my chores and other tasks. Hope everyone has a good day.
