It's a gloriously sunny warm day today compared to the windy and torrential rain of yesterday....which stopped us going out for our Valentines dinner, so that's been postponed until the weekend. I'm not feeling too great today,..we had some upsetting news last night but hopefully things will get better later.. Have a good day peeps...
Good Morning. Flags flying at "Half Mast" today.......horrific thing to happen on Valentine's Day! Had a nice Valentine's Day dinner and wife bought me The Moody Blues Greatest Hits CD. Really like that rock group. We are warming up to near 80 (Thank You, Lord) and staying that way. Definitely hope our winter is OVER. Can start getting the boat ready for the water.
Good evening friends, I am safely ensconced in my Russian home and have had a restful day adjusting to life here, which is much easier than in the UK. Lisa's latest timetable is good in that she works only Monday and Wednesday, so we can go away on long weekends here from Thursday to Sunday We are planning one trip down south in March on a 6 hour train journey 200Km south of Moscow to a couple of interesting towns. This weekend we are going to a festival here called Maslenitsa, in the park on the Islands, it's where our UK Shrove Tuesday (Pancake Day) originates, I think some parts of the US celebrate it, calling it Fat Tuesday or Mardi Gras sometimes? The festival lasts a whole week here, and people dress up in traditional costumes with singing and dancing. It's cold at -8c around 17f with some snow, but in the apartment it's around 80f so very cosy. Enjoy your day.... According to archeological evidence from 2nd century A.D. Maslenitsa may be the oldest surviving Slavic holiday. Maslenitsa has its origins in the pagan tradition. In Slavic mythology, Maslenitsa is a sun-festival, personified by the ancient god Volos, and a celebration of the imminent end of the winter. In the Christian tradition, Maslenitsa is the last week before the onset of Great Lent. During the week of Maslenitsa, meat is already forbidden to Orthodox Christians, and it is the last week during which eggs, milk, cheese and other dairy products are permitted, leading to its name of "Cheese-fare week" or "Crepe week". The most characteristic food of Maslenitsa is bliny thin pancakes or crepes, made from the rich foods still allowed by the Orthodox tradition that week: butter, eggs and milk. Since Lent excludes parties, secular music, dancing and other distractions from spiritual life, Maslenitsa represents the last chance to take part in social activities that are not appropriate during the more prayerful, sober and introspective Lenten season. It was a glorious Spring like day yesterday and as I ran a few errands these past few days I noticed Spring is busy blooming everywhere. I'm sure we will have a few more cold spells, but the earth cannot lie...Spring is on it's way and I'm so ready for it as I'm sure many of you are too. Have a blessed day everyone.
Good Morning everyone... It's another glorious sunny morning ... like yesterday. Unfortunately our drainage tank outside in our garden below ground and directly outside our back door is leaking, and raising the manhole cover a little bit ...and the sewerage pipes are under there leading to the sewer tank yards away...and the smell is horrible when we open the back door... . We only noticed it night before last so by a process of elimination we think that next door who we share the pipework with is pouring stuff down the drains which are blocking them..maybe fat or hand wipes... so we've had to call a plumber out. There's always something having to be repaired.. *sigh* Anyway after that less than floral subject...may you all have a very nice day.. and no smelly drains.. lol
How nice it would be if we all could meet at the beach today. It's getting warm enough for this...at least over here. Sometimes I really wish like most of my sisters that I could just get in my car and be at the beach in less than a half hour. And yet I know if that were possible then having time with my children and grandchildren would be a lot harder because I'd have to travel much further to see them. So here I sit going to the beach in my imagination today. Come join me...it's a perfect day at the beach.
Good morning everyone! Nice day today weatherwise but there is a freeze warning for Monday ...temps will drop to 30 overnight. I was going to change out my winter sheets...glad I waited. Today my baby is 10 years old...it's Pickles' Birthday!
