It's 6:15am and it's 32 breezy, overcast degrees here on the east edge of Iowa. I slept a lot last night. Seems the more I sleep, the more sluggish I am in the mornings. Don't know what that's all, about. Guess I'll just blame it on the warm, snowless winter we're having. I remember a few winters like this in the past, before the days when global warming got blamed. One winter I never had to wear boots. The ground was froze but bare of snow. Once in a while, we got a dusting. One winter in better days, I was out rabbit hunting with two friends. It was their idea, not mine. The day was a 10 degree day with a stiff wind and lots of snow cover. The wind made it feel well below zero. I was trudging along on top of a bank while the other two walked below, through the weeds. I was thinking how crazy it was to be out in this cold and wind, when a rabbit ran over the top of the bank in front of me. I was on him, and attempted to take my shot. My gun wouldn't fire. The oil around the firing pin was frozen. I had to carry my gun with the action under my arm until it thawed enough to fire. The three of us got 32 rabbits and a couple pheasants that day. The bunnies were congregated in ditches out of the wind. So, as I type and hear the wind whistling up the alley outside my window, I leave with this thought. If it's cold where you are, carry your pistol in a shoulder holster, so it won't be froze up when you need it.
I reckon our unseasonably warm weather is over. We were 20 degrees above normal most of last week and still 10 degrees above until a cold front came through yesterday afternoon. I went outside to finish cleaning up the pine woods about 9am yesterday. It was cool but not bad. I came in around noon, had some food and rested a bit. I went back out about 1 o'clock and although the sun was bright, there was a cold wind blowing. The weather guessers are saying we might get a few snow flurries tonight. So....Put another log on the fire, boil me up some bacon and some beans....
Good morning everyone, still chilly in Fresno. My last day home but I did everything except last minute things yesterday which is good because I woke up too early and feeling like Im not going to accomplish much today. Hope you feel better, Holly...sounds similar to what I had minus the sore throat. Hope everyone has a great day.
Bless you Joe....and thanks for your sympathies, but I hope you'll be glad to know I do have a nice roaring fire...but I didn't need it today, it's been very mild.. Lara...yeah, I get to work from home a couple of days a week..cuz I'm the Boss, ...but some days regardless of how poorly I feel I still have to go in, that's the way it is, and I can't complain about that of course. I've kinda fed a fever today...had some nice food, and stayed indoors in the warm and did my work which only took 1/2 a day. There are 3 packages to collect from the sorting office which they'd attempted to deliver while I was at work yesterday that need collecting , I just wasn't in the mood to take time out to go there...I'll just leave it for hubs to collect at the w/e when he's off..
Good morning from a cold grey day here, I woke at 7 am and have no real plans for today, Lisa has a funeral to go through and we have to sort out what we are going to cook for our Christmas celebration this Sunday, ahead of my departure for the UK next Tuesday. Have a good day everyone. A local winter pic of St.Isaacs cathedral
Good Morning Terry and all... As always it's pitch dark out there @ 6am....but it feels quite mild. Got a long day ahead of me today, but I have the w/e off so I'm looking forward to that... Have a good day all...
Good morning everyone. Still chilly here but a degree ot two warmer by the coast. Have a busy day with the drive and getting hair done and then who knows what else at my daughter's. Have a great day!
Good Friday morning all. Looks like we are in for some rain today. Warm out, at 73 degrees, but the sun is hiding out today. Hate the idea of going to Walmart this morning but my Xarelto pills have run out and I cannot skip a dose. Lucky to find a parking spot this close to Christmas.
Mornin all you seniors. I'm off to a late start. I was up earlier and went to go online but my 'puter was going through an upgrade. These take forever. It just now finished, and it's 7am. So, it's 21 clear, breezy degrees, here in east Iowa. Highs are only expected to be in the upper 30's. That's ok, I ain't goin nowhere. Wednesday my grocery order came and last night my daughter brought me a big container of ham and turkey left over from their company dinner yesterday. I can hibernate indoors the rest of the winter now. So, behave yourselves. If you can't behave, run very fast.
Good morning to you all, I slept in a bit later today up after 8am, it's still dark but becoming warmer 6c ( 43f ) today and 9c ( 48f ) tomorrow unheard of temperatures here in December normally. Busy day today shopping for food for our Christmas dinner tomorrow and a local Christmas Fair to visit and more shopping. Have a good Saturday wherever and whatever you are up to. Here is another local winter pic of the Hermitage (formerly the Tsars Winter Palace) taken a few years ago.
Good Morning everyone... Very Mild buy damp start to the day. I have the weekend off, *yeaaaah*...but I'm not planning to go anywhere because the Media are calling this 'Panic Saturday'' due to the fact that many of our largest and most well known stores are having an Up to *80% pre Christmas sale...*yikes*....I would not go near a shopping mall or retai park today if you paid me...well maybe if you did pay me.. ...but the furthers I may venture is the village pub for lunch or dinner....keep those sales rats away from me... Yesterday the last of my Christmas gifts arrived...it's a cover for my new IPad Air 2...in a beautiful cognac leather...I love the smell of new leather...so I'm very happy with this. Also got a new Book (hardback) even tho' I have my new kindle)...I don't think I'll ever find it more pleasurable to read a screen than I do to read a real paper tome with a Hardback cover....the kindle is handy to take around in my bag and read a few chapters...but it's not to far removed from reading stuff on my iphone...not really like a book at all...so although I'm enjoying the Kindle, I think my first love will always be Paper!! ...and with that ..I wish you all a great Pre Christmas weekend....
