oooh goodness don't say November @Terry Page ...I'll go all day thinking it's Winter instead of Spring ...
Interesting thing. I called in yesterday to reschedule an appointment with the heart doctor but they were not open at the time I called. I did call a tad early but I got a voice message stating that the office was closed due to weather conditions and if I wished to reschedule I needed to call back January 17th. "Let's see", said I. In order to move an appointment I now have for Thursday this week to sometime next week, I have to wait until January 17th of next year in order to do so. Even the late great Stephen Hawking would not be able to mathematically deduce how such an event would be made possible other than theorize something about the space/time continuum. A time machine I do not have so I called a little later anyway and informed them of my wishes on the voice mail and also reported the impossibility of their own request. I could indeed wait until January but I would probably be fined the 50 or so beans for a no show. I am certainly glad, however, that the cardiac unit secretary is not working in the operating room or today's heart transplant wouldn't be scheduled until December with the heart showing up a week ago even though the person is laying on the operating table and given anesthesia two hours ago.
Good Morning my friends Well we got a whole day without rain yesterday...but we're back to it today, so I'm pleased I got out and about yesterday because we're forecast for more rain tomorrow and snow at the weekend.. isn't it all just too depressing? .. Anyway, I'm fortunate that I have a warm home, good food, and the ability to speak to you all across the world in comfort from that same warm house .. today I'm just thinking of the poor and homeless who don't have these things, and face yet more freezing temps and snow this weekend.. .... Hope you all have a good Day today...
Well, Holly, one thing to remember, a lot of homeless chose to live in freezing temps and snow. That's proven to be a fact. When that is chosen, I don't have much empathy for them.
Then, perchance one might wish to feel empathy for the one's who have no choice but not for those who have made the wrong choices in life? How does one sort them out or perhaps we just need to pray for them all and allow God to do His best to help change those who have made those wrong choices and help those who have no wherewithal to make life better? I think I will stick with empathizing for all of them because I have been there. We are all only one paycheck or major injury away from being homeless and I do indeed thank everyone who showed compassion when I was on the streets of Atlanta.......................
Well, TBO, I've been homeless a couple of fairly short times. Both times, due to irresponsibility with income and lost job. IOW, I was having too much weekend fun, but not due to drugs or alcohol. Both times I was able to get myself off of the streets and get a job. I was getting UI, got a pager and used a friends address. But, I wanted off of the streets and many don't..........not even when offered help. And, a person/persons can't help those that refuse help. There are even those homeless that don't want to spend the night in a shelter, out of the freezing and snowy weather, because they don't trust other people not to steal their things. I have compassion, but when there are those that chose to stay homeless, it can be very hard to be to compassionate.
I have never been homeless but I have been in a rut where I couldn't afford a security deposit and first and last month's rent for an apartment, yet was living in a hotel that cost whole lot more than that, the only difference being that I didn't have to come up with a lump sum. That was where I was when I first went to work for Hoerner-Waldorf. Although I was a new employee, the company gave me an advance large enough to get into a more affordable apartment.
Well, this is the Good Morning Thread, so..... If someone wants to start some type of “Homeless” Thread, go for it.
WHAT......and get into trouble with those that have 100% compassion for them. Holly, do I look that stupid?? (LOL) Please don’t answer that! Another LOL
Yeah, I could have responded that way to your post but I thought I'd be polite instead, and reply to your topic. Good morning to you.
To put things into prospective, I have worked in the homeless ministry all across the U.S sometimes whilst working in my secular career and sometimes I simply went on staff at a rescue mission and went in full time. In one mission alone, (Seattle Rescue Mission) we ministered to a couple of thousand, no, not hundreds, but a couple of thousand homeless people each and every day. Now, here's a major point I would like to present. It is one thing to surmise or listen to hearsay but quite another to actually spend some time talking with people who, for whatever the reason, are homeless. Have you ever volunteered at a rescue mission or helped serve food to the homeless and maybe sat down and had a little lunch with a few of them? Has anyone REALLY tried to get really up close and personal to some of them to find out what might have gone wrong in their lives? What are the stats of how many are suspected of being mentally challenged? How many are combat veterans and how many kids are runaways and why did they choose the streets instead of a nice warm home? Sure, there are people who do opt to be homeless by definition or is it that they consider anything other than somewhere they have to be cramped up and take orders their home? I am willing to bet I know because I did and do give a dern enough to find out. A Biblical concept is that it is one thing to say, God Bless You or I Will Pray For You when someone is hungry, but it's an entirely different thing to actually grab a loaf of bread and feed them. To roundhouse the homeless issue by simply saying that none of them needs compassion because a few choose to be there is like saying we shouldn't feel compassion for a veteran who lost his leg in combat because after all, he did voluntarily join the Army. Yeah, I just got off of work and yeah I am very tired and ornery but the homeless issue is REALLY close to my heart no matter which thread it is being presented. Sorry to go off topic but it is what it is which, is in another thread I started this morning.............................
