Back into the cold this morning -13 F. and bright and sunny. 9 hours of daylight now on the way to 19 or 20 in June. It is supposed to warm a bit by afternoon. We'll see.... @Yvonne Smith when I was single and living in southcentral Illinois, I rented a small house and only heated one room--the living room. The two bedrooms, the kitchen and the bathroom were left unheated. My wife-to-be lived about 50 miles away and decided she wouldn't come for a visit unless I had heat in the bathroom, so I purchased a small electric heater to heat the bathroom when she came for a visit. I could use my kitchen counter as a refrigerator in the winter, and I only had to wash dishes once per week, as the dirty dishes were stored in the "fridge". On occasion, the pipes in the kitchen would freeze and I would have to thaw them out to wash dishes, but after I got married, all that changed and I had to heat the entire house all the time (except the spare bedroom). Of course, we couldn't do that here. Life would be untenable in and unheated house here, and I am not as tough as I once was.
Good morning all... It's a our second beautiful sunny of February..temps are at 56deg today... yesterday we went into the city to enjoy a day out at the 02 millennium dome and take a cable car ride, and a boat ride along the Thames . It was fantastic because on a Sunny February there was hardly any tourists around, and it was so quiet it was like we'd wondered into a different country by accident.. no queues for anything, brilliant.. it was just lovely!! here's a few pics..I took loads so I'll set up a an album page when I get around to it...but here's photos I took from and of the boat and the cable car. BTW the Cable cars are 300 feet up....
The was our boat It has a bar inside... and lots of seating, which I should imagine gets very full during the tourist seasons... we stayed out on the deck tho' because it was such a beautiful day..
The cold has returned: -23 F. this morning, but the sky is clear and the Sun is coming up. I am awaiting our new dishwasher, and I spent much of yesterday on the tractor, widening the driveway (of snow) so the delivery truck can make it to the house. It was cold yesterday, but not as cold as today. I wore full winter gear for the first time this season, as I was outside for several hours. No mask, though, as there was no wind.
Another cold and windy day, tomorrow rain, dang it. Oh well, it could be worse. We made some head way this week end in clearing out my father in laws garage. Once the weather is warmer and clear we should be ale to really clear things out, so we can sell that house! Go see my new heart doctor Wednesday , and hope I like him as well as my previous doctor thinks I will . Trying something new this week- my hubby to see a doctor on Friday, that charges a flat fee for services, depending on how much you may come into see him. He also, does email and phone consultations. Wanted us to check him out now and see how this goes, since we do not have insurance on hubby yet. Hope you all have a good and prosperous week
Afternoon everyone... jeez I had a fright yesterday. I went to look for my wallet just before hubs and I were going out. I hadn't used ti since our trip to the city on Thursday and had transferred it to a larger tote bag , different to the smaller one I use regularly, so I wouldn't be carrying a whole load of unnecessary weighty stuff . . of course in the city you have to have eyes in the back of your head to avoid pickpockets..so I just took the wallet, phone & camera Go to get the wallet out of my bag yesterday and it's not there.. phone, and camera are there but not my wallet. I search everywhere, in my regular bag in case I'd already transferred it back..not there. Ultimately, we pull the house apart for a whole hour , ..nope it's not there!! I'm in a panic now.. I have everything in that wallet, cards, passport copy, driving licence, .. so I check my accounts doesn't look like anything has been taken, but it's Sunday so it doesn't always show. I even called a couple of stores we had shopped in, to ask if I'd left it there... I have no other option, I have to call the banks and cancel my cards... ..I was just going through the very tedious rigmarole of getting this done and giving out security answers to the bank , when hubs walks in waving the wallet...it had fallen through a hole in the lining of the pocket of the old Tote... a hole neither of us had even noticed when we emptied the whole bag not once but 3 times!! jeez I nearly had a heart attack.. that tote bag has now been consigned to the bin ..and a lesson learned for me, only keep necessary cards in my wallet, nothing else...
So glad that you found your wallet, @Holly Saunders ; that would be a serious panic to lose it ! So the wallet was actually still in the tote, but just lost in the lining ? We have had a rare visit from Bobby’s brother this weekend. He lives in the Netherlands because of his work, and we only see him once every few years. This time we were talking a lot about the ancestry searches, which is always interesting. Bobby is sending in his dna samples for Ancestry and 23 and Me, so we should have more information about his relatives once that comes back . Tracking down relatives this way is something that was so impossible up until now, and searching the Ancestry database has really helped out a lot, plus finding relatives thatcame from grandparents or several generations back.
I'm painting the spare bedroom. I hate to paint. How I feel about the whole thing... Did I mention I hate to paint?
Warmer-in the upper 20s this morning and snowing. It has been snowing for 3 days now. I was plowing the drive and was almost done when my tractor tire went flat. I have wheel weights on the rear tires, and getting them off just about killed me. I tried inflating it with my little compressor, but no go. My bigger compressor is at my youngest son's, as he uses it a lot more than I do. I will have to remove the tire, load it into the truck, and haul it somewhere to get serviced. Big pain. On top of that we had a little 4.6 earthquake this morning, the biggest in a while, that brought all that back to the forefront. My wife had to leave her car outside last night, as I had the tractor in the garage, so she had to clean the snow off prior to leaving for work. I have some plant transplanting to do today and tomorrow, and lighting to organize. We are almost up to 9 hours of daylight and are gaining just under 6 minutyes of sunshine a day now.
jeez @Don Alaska , I know Alaska gets the most earthquakes than anyone, but I think I would move if I lived there. Go careful with that Tyre.. get as much help as possible, you can't afford to do yourself any more injury
