I had a scare with Pickles yesterday. Someone rang my bell around 7 and I asked through the door who it was..and they said "Clarks Pest Control" so I went to open the back gate. But I come back in and seee the guy is walking to another house so I open the door and see a flyer for Kellogg's pest control and since Pickles was barking I thought he said Clark's which is my pest control. I forgot Pickles wasn't put away like I always do when I open the door and he ran out like a bat of hell chasing the guy and into the street..cars where coming and I'm running like crazy and yelling for him to get back inside. The car saw me and stopped but if he hadn't Pickles would have been hit. He's not used to the front of the house or cars....after he was safe and when I went to bed all I could picture was him dead in the street... very upsetting. I'm usually so careful and in 11 years he's never run out the door.
@Chrissy Cross , oh yes it's always scary if the dogs run out unexpectedly, and you don't get time to grab them, you have every vision of them being lost or being killed by traffic right in front of you....good that you managed to grab pickles safely...
Part of the time we lived in Colorado, we had a 3 year old female Husky we got from the county shelter. Absolutely beautiful dog that we got many nice compliments on, but I read up on the breed and found out they were great escape artists. She got of our house twice, thru the door to the garage, while the garage door was still open. I was able to drive around the housing development and find her. Stopped the truck, opened the drivers door and, luckily, she jumped in. Unfortunately, the third time she escaped, local PD picked her up and took her to a shelter some 20 miles from where we lived. I got her back, but wife and I decided we were too old to have this kind of dog, especially one that loved to run, so we took her back to the county shelter we got her from. We sure liked her and even took her on our boat we had there, but. We still get "teary-eyed" when we look at the pictures we took of her in the snow and on the boat. Actually made a Christmas card of all three of us in front of our house there.
My peak this week :..spent the week helping to build a new double barn shed in our garden in the hot sun, we couldn't have chosen a better week weather wise to get it done but it was hard work . Then yesterday to we drove to Cambridge (the university city, for those who don't know it)... and we were going to go punting but when we got there , it was all cloudy, and the sun didn't come out until the afternoon but only for a couple of hours, by which time we were having lunch al fresco, and then sighteseeing a little bit, so we didn't bother...but I did get a few photos Pit : I wanted to go swimming at the open air lido yesterday...too cold and cloudy... also we couldn't access any of the universities and colleges because Exams were in progress. Some of the Universities have stunning gardens . Also the pit was the huge parking fee... more than parts of London actually. £17.50 to park for 4 hours!!
This isn't my week...just finished cleaning my kitchen counter. Was going to have cereal and shook the Almond milk and the cap wasn't on tight...it went everywhere.
accchh...milk everywhere, it's a horrible thing to clean up, and if you don't get it all it stinks the kitchen out!! Don't worry you're not alone in minor disasters CC...I went out into the garden this morning, the sun was blazing..I had a cup of coffee in my hand and I sat down on the rattan chair forgetting that it had rained all night, and the cushion was so wet from the rain ( I hadn't noticed because the cushions are white) it was like jumping fully clothed into the pool... I was drenched from the waist down..
We probably all do, I'm usually so careful with things though and now two mistakes in a row. Pickles being the worst...
I hope I'm not becoming accident prone - its been a rough week for that ! Always been good but not lately
Eduardo almost got Pickles run over last night. With the wax still in my ear and pickles barking I thought the guy said Clark's ....they were due to come out around this time. I never even open the door for Clark's but tell him thru the closed door that I'll go open my back gate so he can get in...what made me open the door was the fact that he wasn't coming in the back yard and was walking away...grrrr I'm still so upset about it! Should have realized Clark's never comes after 5 anyway. Also...roaches in your flakes??? What does that mean...a play on Kellogg's?
I love University cities, especially the older looking ones. I bet Cambridge is beautiful! My brother taught at Princeton for awhile and now he is retiring but lives in Connecticut and is walking distance to Yale..another beautiful University. Although Cal Poly where my grandson goes is in a very cute town on the coast, the campus in my opinion isn't the greatest but the surrounding area is. Here in Fresno we have ugly Fresno State. .....just nothing great.
