We had a small local radio station that my folks used to listen to, and since the next closest ones were all the way into Spokane, it was hard to get a good connection with those, and even when you did, it would fade in and out.
My favorite singer at that time was (of course) Roy Rogers, I I loved it when the station manager would announce that he was “calling Roy Rogers up to the mike” and he would sing something like “Kid With a Rip in His Pants”,which I loved listening to.
One day, my dad had to go out to the radio station to help them with something electrical, and he took me along. I was SO elated and excited....... we were going to actually SEE Roy Rogers be called up to the mike and sing ! !

When we got there, it was just a big old empty building with one guy, and not the room full of singers that I was expecting. After a few minutes, I finally tugged on my dad’s shirtsleeve to whisper, “where is Roy Rogers ?”
He had no idea what I was even talking about until I explained that I wanted to see him called up to the mike to sing.
I am sure that my dad and the radio announcer were both silently chuckling at me, but they didn’t show it, and kindly explained to me that it was only records that they played, and not real people in the studio singing.
Radio was never quite the same for me after that.......

When I was a kid this cabinet held everything in the kitchen... dried and canned food, cutlery and dishes... . My mother with the help of a Gas fridge managed to stock food for six of us with just this.. incredible!! Now I have 2 whole walls of kitchen cupboards and drawers , a chest freezer and an upright fridge freezer to to hold the same thing , but for only 2 of us!!

What would that be, Holly? Sounds kind of dangerous.

LOL exactly what it sounds...it was a refrigerator run by Gas..... :) Don't ask me how it worked, I don't know I was just a little kid at the time, we moved from that house when I was 9...but I do remember it was actually built into the house

I found a picture of the fridge... it's far right of the photo...

All mod cons in the prefab kitchen.jpg This is a stock photo..however most of these post war prefabricated ( prefabs) houses were identical inside .

Ours was a little larger than most but the basics were the same...

Great examples, @Holly Saunders . Thanks for the gas fridge. Typing classes? What a privilege. Disco, yep, but not on skates. Bankbook, was not too long ago, Grannies, yes, I remember, Woolworths, was before my time (gg) Ice cream, I'd have had some from you. :D
