Perish the thought---Scampi without garlic is Blaaah!! Garlic is one of my favorite spices---healthy too.
Remember the commercial about becoming nose blind? The only way I can possibly explain this garlic phenomenon, is garlic lovers become "taste" blind. They keep adding more and more and more garlic because their taste buds have become "immune" to it. Then when an average person comes along, the taste is overwhelming.
I hate it when restaurants butcher a dish and turn people off to it. I recall having French Onion Soup at one place, and it tasted as though they emptied a bottle of bullion, threw a slice of onion on and some cheese on top, and put it in the microwave (actually, that's likely what they did.) It was disgusting. I grab random recipes that interest me to try at some point, and the one I have for Scampi only has 2 gloves of garlic per pound of shrimp plus pound of pasta. A quick internet search shows that to be the standard ratio. Someone in that kitchen must have just watched Twilight I just got back from the grocery store buying Scampi and pizza ingredients. I'll post back how the scampi was...it's what's for dinner tonight.
This is the dinner that will be brought to my apartment at 5 PM I will post a picture when it arrives. I am chilling my Sauvignon Blanc.
Lon: Where's my pic? You may have inspired another future meal in my house. I went thorough a "trout phase" some time ago. Maybe it's time to bring salmon to the front of the line for a bit. edit to add: There it is!!! Off to find a recipe...
Thanks @Lon Tanner I found a Martha Stewart recipe for something similar, but it was only rated 2.5 stars out of 5.0 Then I found a recipe for pistachio-crusted salmon cooked with cherry preserves and fresh cherries with a side of oranged green beans. It's just weird enough for me to try.
With all the residents being shut in and inactive, the new meal offerings are a welcome change of pace . I will have a Bahn Mi Vietnamese Sandwich for lunch and have ordered the Vegetable Pad Thai dinner.
To you, it looks good, but definitely not to us. We use to like going to Panda Express, but just to much sugar in their food for us. Now, the question is: Can use use Chop Sticks to eat with?
I think Lon's food looks amazingly great! I do use chopsticks for most of my meals, even soup: I eat the vegetables and noodles, and then drink the soup from the bowl.
Looks real good, Lon. I like the lighter varieties of ethnic foods. I used to go to a hole-in-the-wall Lebanese restaurant in Old Town Alexandria every once in a while. I loved their mint & cucumber and Tabbouleh salads. Vietnamese soup (Pho) is really good as well. I picked up the ability to use chopsticks decades ago when working in an area that only had a Chinese restaurant and fast food as lunch options. I like using them because they [sort of] force me to pace myself.
