We have had to stay in our apartments for several weeks. Dining room is closed and meals are delivered to us.
Yeh, I knew that. I thought they were still being served on real dinnerware. Guess I misunderstood. It still looks good.
There was a thread about the cost of various levels of such services, and I found a website that cited the average per-state/per-facility-type. His costs are not out of line. In fact, such accommodations are just slightly more than in-home care (since the labor is shared by a large group.) It's insane. It's depressing. I'm gonna be surviving by Meals-on-Wheels and the local sheriff's Wellness Checks.
Yep, not all Seniors have the money he does. Some are fine with that and some others can only "wish".
My mother had a friend mention that she (her friend) had just purchased a Long Term Care policy. For some reason, my mother thought that was a good idea, so she bought one. That decision made no sense. Longevity was not in the cards, based on her immediate family. (The same goes for me, but that's another story.) Fast forward to her getting Alzheimer's and then living with dementia for years. That policy paid for assisted living, and then for the live-in she had. All because a friend made a comment, and our mother was influenced by it. She was not affluent. Some people literally scrape by, some have our own priorities, while others don't even think of this "what if."
Looks allot like your meals are prob prepared outside of the apartment complex and bought in and reheated just before being served. In Australia most disposable containers are banned including ones shown like your meal is in Lon
I realize the Care side and if one is unhealthy enough and has enough funds to afford a residential care facility, God bless ‘em. Frankly though, I’m not into being told when I can go out of my house or when dinner is. If I want to eat, I know how to cook and I do not have to choose from a menu. I’m not trying to degrade what Lon has going but there are inmates in prison who have more freedom than he has had since the virus thing started. Seems to me they should be reimbursing part of his money just for the fact that his freedom of movement has been impaired,. Good meals and a bottle of wine just isn’t enough to keep me exited for very long especially since I do not drink. And as far as being in lockdown in my room for heaven knows how long?
Sure, but when you reach the point that you are physically incapable of leaving your home even when you have the desire, or when meal prep is a struggle, you are already imprisoned and are in search of the freedom that such care can provide.
