Maybe you could think of smaller projects, like this...

You could also use the granny squares to make table runners, place mats, etc.

Yes. I really like making these squares. I can almost do them without thinking now. Maybe I have OCPD tendencies. Twenty minutes each is perfect. Stop whenever you want. Sneak one in when you want.

I'm going to try some with a brown border and no white, and some with a white border and no brown, two colors each, and don't mix the oranges.

I was thinking that each square could make a nice coaster. :D

Speaking of end tables ( were we speaking of those?  )

My cat liked to hide behind the loveseat in the former living room whenever she got upset or frightened. She was upset when I moved the furniture. Decided to hide behind a lamp on an end table close by instead. There are much worse places she could choose, so I didn't mention it to her. She is over it now.

Anyway, that lamp sits on a round (octagon?) thing I made from this yarn several years ago.

There is a matching one on the other side of the room. I can make two new square things for those two tables. These two could be unraveled if more peach yarn is ever needed. ;)

    @Nancy Hart
Like the crowd in Times Square, on NYE, the individual granny squares loose their identity and are swallowed up by the overall unity of the rest of the squares. Don't belabor over each one, just crank them out. Some day it may become an Olympic event!

Joe, what you say is true. I tend to develop a (20 minute) relationship with every one of them.

Cute kitty! My grandma used to crochet doilies like that, using yarn that looked more like thread. I don't know how she didn't go blind trying to see those stitches.

My grandma taught me how to crochet when I was a kid, using that thread. It takes a long time to make the smallest things, and you have to be really neat or it shows. I made a lot of doilies for my mother, but never wanted to make two the same. When I did, one would always turn out bigger than the other.

My mother preferred embroidery. Cross stitch was her favorite. She did a whole quilt once with 50 embroidered squares (not cross stitch). Each square had a state bird. I ran across one of those rings you put the cloth in to do the sewing just this week. I was never any good at that.

What I mostly remember about my grandma's doilies was the amount of starch she used on them. I think they would have shattered if dropped on the floor. :D

Last night I took the 8 ugliest squares and made a mat to put on top of a chest of drawers. The chest was chosen on purpose because it is tall. That way no one can get a good look at this thing. In normal light the camera makes white things look yellow. This is taken in a closet which has bright LED lights. The white really is this white in real life.

Shorthair orange cats look so much alike it's hard for me to tell them apart from a distance.

Just before dark about a week before Christmas an orange cat showed up on the front porch steps. Could it possibly be our old neighborhood cat??? . If so, he would be at least 16 years old by now.

The first time I saw him was I believe 2006. He was a TNR cat, already about 2 yrs old. He would visit every house within 4 blocks for years. Kept all the ground squirrels under control. Everybody's friend. I made sure he had water and enough to eat. He was with me when I screened in the porch (including a cat door) in 2010/11, so everyone assumed he was my cat. A year or 2 later a woman 2 blocks up came by and adopted him. I was happy for him.

But this cat acted like he didn't know me and started to run away. So I got a few pieces of kibble and he was my friend instantly. Then I saw the small slit in his right ear, left ear clipped for the TNR program.

The only other picture I have, taken in 2009

I found all this a little unsettling. Assumed he had already gone over Rainbow Bridge. Like seeing the ghost of a long lost friend. Now I can worry about him again. He is well fed. I guess she lets him out at night sometimes. I knew early on he would never like being an indoor-only cat.

A Columbo marathon on Sundance channel started New Year's Eve and ran through Sunday night. TV on continuously except while sleeping. Walked by every so often to check episodes to see if I remembered the plots. Watched beginnings, ends, and middles. Now that it's over it's like a person I was living with moved out of the house. I'm glad I wasn't a suspect.

Still have hopes of getting the old pc to start up again. Need to recover a few pictures, videos and bookmarks since the last backup. Only have one monitor in town. Just took the other one out to the farm 5 days ago and left it. Maybe that was the jinx? It's not such a bad thing really. Like decluttering your house and throwing away boxes that you never opened for years without knowing what's in them.

32 more granny squares done. This time with a dark brown border. It keeps me from doing things I'm better off not doing.
