Closet painting is finished. This is the hardwood floor the way it looks right now. Thinking about sanding and finishing it. Some of the dust from the drywall got ground into the floor.
I was afraid to try the belt sander at first, but it works really well. This is after a quick once over just to figure out how to use it. The flash on the camera makes it look worse than it is. A more careful second round, and then some hand sanding should do it. . It's 4" pine. If I do a decent job, and it's the same flooring as the two rooms upstairs, it should turn a reddish color when finished. Then I can cover it with carpet.
Brought in a small load of pine straw today. Much more is available. Spread it out under the dogwood tree in town. Will add more after this settles down. Hope this works. Dead pine in the front yard. . It can not fall into the road. Guess I will let it rot up a little more over the winter, and take it down before mowing time begins. It's starting to drop a lot of limbs in the yard.
Trees, back when I was younger and more viable, in the days of film photography, were some of my favorite subjects. Now here in the days of digital I have no subject but a good looking tree is always a delight.
Oh we have some beauties down here. They grow so close together you can't tell them apart, in poor soil, fighting beetles, and drought...gives them a lot of character.
@Nancy Hart , I bet that floor will be beautiful when you finish with it. Must you cover it with carpet?
That be me someday. I'm watching the game. A miracle happened up to now: Georgia 21, Alabama 14, at halftime. Alabama was favored by 12. Where are you @Pam Sellers ? I need to make it through the 2nd half. It's like last year, so far.
Shirley I love refinishing anything wood. When I say it will be covered in carpet, keep in mind, that may be years down the road, at the rate I do things. We'll see how it turns out. Nowadays they make new flooring to look like "depressed" wood, much worse than this. Ha!
Georgia 28, Alabama 14! Georgia 28, Alabama 21 Georgia 28, Alabama 28 Georgia 28, Alabama 35 - Final - Poo!
When I refinished wood floors, the first time I rented a big stand up floor belt sander as the floor was in rough shape. When I finished, it looked beautiful. The second time, I rented a pad floor sander. It was much gentler on the wood and it, too, came out great. Both times I used a belt sander around the edges to make certain that the edges were uniform with the rest of the floor.
Don, my belt sander won't get close enough to the edges, and I just can't cut that old wood hand sanding. Was just about to give up, then discovered, by accident, whatever's on there sands off if you wet it lightly first. I used peroxide, but I think plain water would work just as well. A few strokes with 60 grit paper was all it took, then smoothed it with finer grit paper. I wish I had known that before I started. I'd never heard of wet sanding wood before. A test patch, before and after it dried. (The haziness, I think, is from the camera flash reflecting on dust floating in the air. )
All of the frozen pears from this summer are finally gone. Rusty loved them, even after they turned brown. I shouldn't post this picture. They look gross. Is the term "gross" outdated? Will try some grapes today.
