There was a children's amusement park, called Kiddie Land, near the house where I grew up in Ohio, just 1400 feet down the road according to Google Maps. They always put on July 4th fireworks displays. Cars would park on both sides of the highway, way beyond our house, to watch. They were impressive displays for the 50's and 60's. That park was where all the high school kids wanted to work in the summer. It closed long ago, but someone posted pictures of it on the internet. Amazing what you can find.

There was some loud private firecrackers here last night just about dark. That was it. I think everyone had left town. They had sparklers near the cash register at the Dollar Store Monday. Spent $2 of my mad money. lol First of any kind of fireworks I think I've ever bought. Crossed that off the bucket list.

I made a video of one, just to see how the phone camera would work at night. Just to be silly I'm posting it here. May be more interesting for the night sounds. They seem particularly intense this summer, almost like out in the country. Probably because of so much rain.

Spent some of the evening putting up more insulation.

Great job with the Gideon's Sparkler @Nancy Hart!

I heard fireworks starting around 9 to almost midnight.

Pickles wasn't petrified but he was a little scared so I had to stay up past my bedtime to sit with him.

At least I slept little later than usual this morning...5:00 am.

@Chrissy Cross, I've never heard them called Gideon's Sparklers. Didn't know they made colored ones. I already have an injury---picked up a hot one by mistake in the dark. lol

This was the quietest July 4th I've ever (not) heard. Don't know if my cat is afraid of fireworks or not. She wasn't anywhere to be seen, but that's not unusual, and I didn't go looking for her. Now THAT would have scared her. Ha!

The only slightly interesting thing yesterday was this moth on the back porch---a big one, about 5" across. It's an Imperial Moth (Eacles imperialis). I wonder if it picked that location, to blend in, or was it just a coincidence.

The caterpillar looks like this. I've never noticed any of them.

@Nancy Hart , I have only ever seen one of them. It was on the ceiling under my carport. I think it was drawn to the light. I had to Google it to see what it was.

Some bonsai trees are leaned over to make multiple trunks.

There was a tree near here that blew over and was growing multiple trunks. Then they built houses there and cut it down.:(

    Dear Diary...

Finally got the insulation done in the upstairs closet remodel project. I keep finding more things I didn't think of, and have to redo things---two steps forward, one step back. Was able to get rid of some old insulation I already had.:)

Allergic reaction to antibiotics had me itching for 3 weeks, and I didn't want to start another episode handling fiberglass. That's my excuse anyway, and I'm sticking to it. You can already tell a difference. It's down to maybe 100 F degrees in there midday now.

This is the most difficult project I've ever attempted. Partly because I've never tried doing some of this stuff before, and partly because of the confined quarters, making it that much more difficult to work. When I think of all the things that still have to be done, it's a bit daunting. Can't let myself think too much about that. lol

    Nancy,

Before you close up the walls with sheetrock leave a few items from 2018 for someone to discover in years to come.

Things like a newspaper, coins, a photo of the carpenter, a Hostess Twinkie, the electric bill, etc...
