It seems like Matt Gaetz was pretty safe to resign his House position, because if he is somehow not approved as AG, then DeSantis will appoint him to replace Marco Rubio in the Senate, so the senators are going to have to deal with Gaetz in one way or another, like it or not. They are also talking about a congressional recess, and then Trump makes his appointments while congress is in recess. Most likely, Trump has worked out all the angles before he even started the process of telling us who he wants appointed, and there are already senators who are being threatened with being primaried if they do not cooperate. Elon Musk has said that his superpac will fund campaigns against any lawmakers who are not going along with Trumps appointments, and there are a lot of people complaining on X about the senators who are not cooperating with Trump.
How do these nominations work? I mean, so President Trump nominates someone, the how are they actually instated? Is it all up to Trump when he is sworn in, or do others have to vote as well?
I'm probably missing your point. The Republicans control the Senate, 53 to 47. They also currently control the House, 218 to 208 with 9 races to be called (and those vacated seats to be filled.)
Do you know how this happens with a President-elect before he is sworn in to office? Technically, he's not POTUS yet, is he??? I've wondered this and can't figure it out.
Yes, I am seeing that as well, about those "going back on their word" to support President Trump. I know they can be impeached, read that the other day, so I don't understand why we have to sit by and listen to all the complaints, but no one is impeaching? I read somewhere when I googled, that only one, single person in our Senate has EVER been impeached. What does it take to boot out corruption! Quote below from google: Past impeachments of federal officials But there have been only 21 impeachments. This includes three presidents, one cabinet secretary, and one senator. Of those who were impeached, only eight officials were found guilty by the Senate and removed from office.Feb 2, 2024
It takes an engaged, ethical electorate. And I've been preaching this about people who want Trump to "drain the swamp." We do not want to give anyone the power to easily remove representatives that we have voted into office. We all know what a sh!t show that would perpetually be. I ask people who are angry that Trump did not drain the swamp what they are doing. We are the government. We vote these people into office, and we are supposed to manage them while they are there, the exact same as should happen with any employee. It's our swamp, not Trump's. Trump does not have the power to get rid of elected officials...nor should he. If people do not manage their elected representatives (even if they think it will "do no good"), then we may as well give up our Republic. We cannot put people into office and let them do what they want any more that we can put one man in the White House and expect him to fix our elected representatives. Self government only works when the selves choose to govern.
I have never heard of a Senator being impeached. That is news to me. I wonder how it would work when the Senate tried impeachments. Would the Senator under impeachment get a vote? Does the House bring charges? One Supreme Court justice has been impeached: https://www.history.com/news/has-a-u-s-supreme-court-justice-ever-been-impeached Senators are not impeached, but the Senate can vote to remove a member: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_senators_expelled_or_censured
I get what you are saying and it right, imo, but, what I'm asking is how do we do we do our part? I've heard people talk about sending letters. I agree it's our swamp, 100%, I want to know what I can do instead of complain on social media, or agree with someone else's post that says yes, I want the same thing, but what can I do? I feel now like probably writing letters or making phonecalls (how I'd hate making phone calls) I do better writing, getting everything down I want to. Or starting petitions. What are you all doing? I need to learn.
That article I attached said a Senator had been impeached, and aren't all our senators in the Senate? Maybe a false article google came up with.
I write letters and mostly send emails. Why don't you start a thread on "How to manage your elected representatives" [at all levels of government] where we can share our experiences and encourage & support each other?
I'll think about it, but thanks, and I don't feel emails are are even looked at, letters piling up, sounds like it could be worth while though thanks John
I modified the Appointments Status list that's maintained on Page 1 of this thread to include each person's Current Role. I was mostly interested in keeping track of those who have been taken out of office. So far there are (4) Congress Critters , (1) Senator and (1) Governor removed from service and placed in Trump's administration.
Sounds like a false article or someone didn't understand the difference between impeachment and removal.
I would prefer that the Senate not be able to remove members either. The voters should be able to recall them, but Senators from other states should not be able to remove a Senator that I elected to office.
