Parts of New Hampshire are probably every bit as cold as it here, particularly in the mountainous areas, so I don't doubt it was very cold. I was just commenting on the general idea of reporting wind chill factor rather than temperatures, as I hear that on actual weather reports sometimes.
It's been a long time since I heard wind chill, not a factor in Fresno but I do remember it in Chicago and the Midwest. I remember a windchill of -66!
A lot of variables with Wind Chill, in addition to the formula that was changed in 2001. What was -60 wind chill back then would fall around -40 now. https://weather.com/storms/winter/news/old-wind-chill-new-wind-chill-20140106 http://ggweather.com/windchill.htm
The snow is all down here in the South, @Ken Anderson . We don’t like it and I would be quite happy for you to have it back up north where snow belongs. We started out the day around 60, and now it is trying hard to spit out those little snow bullets at us, and it is below freezing and going down fast.
Quite a lot of our snow has melted and is still melting. It's going to be awfully slippery once the temperatures get low enough.
After two days of warm weather and rain, this morning we have freezing rain and temperatures are supposed to drop to 10 degrees. Time for salt.
After a couple of days of warm weather and rain, followed by zero and below-zero degree temperatures, our snow pack is frozen over and I can walk anywhere on the snow without falling through, since the melted snow turned to water, which has frozen over. It is very cold today, but we're supposed to be in the 40s this weekend. It would be nice if it lasted long enough to rid us of our snow, but probably we'll just get another thick layer of ice.
