We are COLD here this morning, but will be even COLDER tomorrow AM. There are a number of folks here that actually like this pretty cold weather. Heck, I've seen young folks here wearing thongs, t-shirt and shorts with the temperature at 45 degrees. Absolutely NUTS to me, but then again, I'm not their age. This weekend we will have a warm-up, which will be awfully nice.
I went to the store yesterday in flip flops and a teeshirt (pants too, I swear I was wearing pants). Unlikely to freeze to death between my house and the car or the car to the store, my only worry would be about breaking down en route. I would hate to have to walk home wearing flip flops in zero degree temperatures.
After being in the medical field for as many years as you were, why on earth would you dress like this?? We are how old now and can catch a cold or flu how easy at this age? Oh well, as the old saying goes, "to each their own" (I guess).
That's mostly an old wives tale...you won't catch a cold or flu from wearing shorts in colder weather. The kids here dress mostly in shorts all year...only a few days that I see them wearing long pants.
Still, that's kids wearing those clothes..........not Seniors. Our immune system isn't nearly as good as theirs, plus, at our age, we are definitely smarter.
Yeah, people catch colds and the flu more often in the winter because they spend more time indoors, often with people who may be infectious, not from the temperatures. There is that indirect relationship, however, in that they are indoors because it's cold outside. The only danger I am placing myself in by wearing flip flop and a teeshirt would by hypothermia or frostbite, which could be a reality if the car were to break down.
Leaving home in flip flops and a teeshirt is still not the smartest thing in the world, however. If I were to break down, get stuck in the snow, or even have a flat tire, changing a tire or waiting for AAA in flip flops, during zero degree temperatures, would not do my toes or my feet any good.
I hate wearing a heavy coat. I usually just wear a light jacket no matter how cold it is. BUT I keep a heavy coat in the car just in case.
We went for about two weeks without snow. Oh, it's been on the ground since it's been mostly cold, but we haven't had much new snow. Today, it's snowing pretty heavily and they are saying we'll get about eight inches, which mean we might get three or four. It's snowing heavily and light, both at the same time, as there are a whole lot of snowflakes coming down but they are very small.
Lots and lots of snow in my neck of the woods this winter. It's snowing heavily at the moment - we're supposed to have another 16-20 inches by tomorrow morning. Sure hope they're wrong, as we're running out of places to shovel it! Enough already.
We are having a blizzard here. It started last night and is supposed to continue through Saturday. This is the worst snow we've had all year. The power is out in coastal Maine. So far, we're okay here and I hope that continues.
@Jackie Stewart and @Ken Anderson , be safe... we're also forecast heavy snow from the weekend...again... this time nicknamed the Pest from the West...Unlike last week's heavy snow , Blizzards , then floods, which was the "beast from the East''... which killed 48
It's still snowing heavily here but they've changed our forecast for tomorrow and Saturday from snow to rain, during the day.
