That is exactly what i was thinking, too. If it warms up enough, all the snow will turn to slush, and if it rains and then freezes, then it could be a freezing rain, and those are one of the worst things ever. Way too slick for walking or driving and too frozen to melt and go away.
That's the likely event since it will be just a few degrees above freezing. Except for a porch in the back, my roof is metal and it's pretty steep so snow only accumulates on the porch roof. Our snow last night and today was heavy, in that there was a lot of it, but they were very light flakes, so they came off with the roof rake easily. As of right now, it's not snowing, so I think I'll be okay as far as the roof goes.
We were supposed to get a lot of snow last night, but most of it passed to the south. We had--and are still having--a lot of wind, so things are drifting.
@Ken Anderson , we had snow yesterday, too. I was talking on the phone with my sister and happened to look out the window. I saw something falling and wondered if it was blooms falling from a tree. But my trees are not blooming yet. So I went to the window and looked closer. It was snowing! It snowed for 3 or 4 minutes and stopped. There were a few clouds but the sun was shining. My sister said that the weatherguessers had said we might have a few flurries.
Now we are under a winter weather advisory for tomorrow afternoon and Tuesday night. WOW! I guess winter isn't over yet.
It is snowing like crazy here right now. I have never seen snowflakes this big. My sister just said it's snowing snowballs at her house. Some of those flakes are as big as a half dollar. It has only been snowing about an hour and the ground is almost covered. I took these pictures about 30 minutes ago. The ground is covered by now. It sure is pretty!
I saw on the net that Maine is slated for a big snow. They were predicting as much as 3 feet. We were supposed to get 5 inches last night, but only got an inch. It is getting above freezing during the day now, so Spring must be just around the corner!
@Shirley Martin I just remarked to my wife that I believe Spring starts a week from this coming Wednesday. Sure can tell it here, 80 degrees daily, lows only dropping to upper 50s, house very comfortable without heat or cooling. But, I can well-remember those winter advisories during my 30 years in Chicago, 3 years in Indiana, 1 year in Colorado..........I won't grandstand for Desert Living, though, as many, many retirees have already decided it is preferable to Canadian cold, Midwestern summer heat and humidity, and Florida year-round humidity. This place is filling up with new residents faster than a pickle factory turns out product! Frank
