@Ken Anderson, It's not bad here either. But here in the southern plains with a few hills here and there, I watch the weather nightly, week after week and month and month. I watch these storms and fronts and wind blowing fifty, sixty, even seventy miles an hour coming off thne west coast or the north west coast passing across the plains and they all seem to head for Chicago then over or through Pennsylvania or New York, then head up the east coast to Maine. I guess I have long thought maine was the dumping grounds for all our winds, all our snows and all our rains that shower down on us and then race off somewhere east, and then make aa sharp left turn toward Maine. I guess I'm surprised at the small amount of snow you've mentioned. Thewre must be another outlet up there somdewhere. say out to sea or somewhere.
Frequently, the storms go off into the Atlantic before reaching mid-Maine. It's not unusual for there to be more snow south and north of us than we have here. Fifty degree temperatures in December are unusual, although not unheard of.
So far this winter, it's been very cold but not a lot of snow. We've had only one heavy snow, and that wasn't even that big of a deal. Some of it melted during a few days of 40-50 degree weather but then it turned cold again, and the rest hasn't gone anywhere.
Only snow for Christmas we will have is what hasn't melted from our 24" plus snowstorm earlier this month. Some folks say "One reason I moved to Colorado is to see/have snow for Christmas". The last time we lived here, there were those that were wishing for snow in Denver metro for Christmas. What they got is what is called The Holiday Blizzard of 2006, which was a wrap-around blizzard that dumped some 5+ feet of snow. It is in the Record Books for The Weather Channel. It was a LOT of snow and definitely a "white Christmas"!
No snow in our future forecast, but our winter isn't over yet either. And, for anyone that didn't see my thread about the SnowBrum we bought for Christmas, from Walmart, the thing REALLY works and sure is quick with removing snow.
I was out in the yard today in shorts and a t-shirt, raking leaves, until I got chased inside by a rainstorm. High 60's and low 70's the rest of the week, with low 80's expected on Friday and the following week. Thank goodness, because my sister is coming South for a few days and is going to want to go to the beach. Ah, winter in Florida.....
I would like to go to the beach, too........... can we ALL come and visit you and go to the beach and enjoy warm weather again ?
Sorry, but you can have your "ah, winter in Florida". We found out very quickly that folks here (NOCO) don't think very highly at all of Florida, but then again, most folks in Florida don't think very highly of Colorado and surrounding states. Heck, most people in Florida don't even know where Colorado and surrounding states are. We were shocked about that.
They are predicting a huge snowstorm tonight and tomorrow, suggesting from 9-12 inches of snow, so we might actually get an inch or two. Since I've moved, there has never been a time when the reality of weather predictions was worse than they said, and usually it's far less than half of what they predicted.
