We're almost done with January and we've had only one snow that amounted to anything so far. It has been awfully cold so all that snow is still on the ground, but there hasn't been much need of shoveling.
We have had a very mild winter so far. Last night was the coldest night so far this year...got down to 16° By this time of year, we should have already had some single-digit temps. Central Virginia is right on the rain/snow line when we get winter precipitation. It will be snowing up in the DC area and chilly raining 100 miles south. When you get west/southwest to the mountains you start getting colder micro-climates.
I wish I had a "real" fireplace; I miss its warm. Right now NY is suffering 28F which gives me de excuse to wear my furs.
I have to heat with wood because my old place lacks insulation. On the one hand, it's a pain in the butt (I just transferred wood from the the stack to my porch an hour ago.) On the other hand, it's real heat. I especially appreciate it on a chilly, rainy day.
Or, Silvia, should you say "welcome to NY in the winter?" And, just think, we moved back to Colorado from northeastern Florida. Funny, people in Florida thought we were totally nuts, yet the folks here can fully understand why we left and moved back here.
Well, dear, there are three places on this world where I will never live in: Singapore, Puerto Rico and Florida. Too hot.
John In Buenos Aires I had three real fireplaces and one when living in PA......but in this building they only allow the electrical ones.
John Tomorrow's forecast for my area: Nor'easter. Gere, a beautiful sight...Fortunately I don't need to go shopping.
