When Hitler was rebuilding and rearming Germany in the 1930's, he commissioned automotive designer Dr. Ferdinand Porsche to create a simple, reliable car for the German people, and the Volks Wagen (Peoples Car) began production in 1938. As of this year, the VW Beetle is no longer in production. My first wife bough a new Beetle in 1968, the year before we were married, and she kept it past our divorce in 1990, and for those 21 years I can't recall any time when it needed a repair of any kind! From what I hear, she still drives that car to this day, 50 years after she bought it! Hal
I had a beetle in the early 80's... never liked it tbh!! We have a Vintage VW camper , which my o/h bought used in the mid 80's when it was already 14 years old...he stripped it and rebuilt it from tyre to roof inside and out.. and it's still going 46 years old...
Years ago we had a very successful Volkswagon dealer in the area that started driving a Mercedes as his personal vehicle. He took so much flack for not being loyal to his brand that he bought a limousine similar to the one pictured. It turned a lot of heads and created lots of smiles not to mention the free reminder advertising for his business.
