I have preplanned a couple of pics around mid February in order to see where I am at.

Talking like that would confirm it, so don't say such things, as I don't believe you did anything at all wrong. How much are you asking?

I dislike cameras when it comes to self portraits but in this case I have to have them done if I am serious about competing. Balance between one muscle group and another is extremely important and a few pics after about a 2 day dry out will reveal anything I need to work on.

The word "Gymnasium" is the German word for "High School".

I've had a Weightlifting bench for years, but now I'm bringing in my old Treadmill and I ordered a Chest Expander.

And for outdoor workouts, I've got my new Recumbent Trike!

I'll be 83 in a few months, so do you think this is overdoing it?

I think your body will tell you when enough is enough... and you'll know yourself if you're overdoing it. from all the pictures I've seen of you, you look very fit, and much younger than your years!!

If it feels good, do it; if it hurts, let it go.

I'll give this weightlifting outfit to anyone who comes to my home in the rain-free, snow free High Desert and takes it away. (Barbell on the floor not included)

I sold my old weight bench a few months ago, but have regretted it ever since, which is why I ordered a new outfit today!

We 83-year-olds have got to keep flexible and fit!

    Here's my old bench:

Just out of curiosity, why are you opting for barbells and doing bench presses instead of going to cables or something like a bio-force machine?
Granted, the set you have is fairly inexpensive but to tell the truth, there are too many things that can go wrong whilst doing bench work.

A cable machine or some such can give you a full workout without many of the possible downfalls a person can have with free-weights especially when there is no spotter around if there IS trouble.

This is the rig I have at home and it does the job quite well without many of the dangers associated with keeping fit.

From the looks of that Cable Machine, it looks too complicated, and too many things could go wrong with it, so I'll stay with the simple, tried-and-true Weights!

No, it’s not complicated at all and really isn’t rocket science but it’s a choice nonetheless.

My point is simple and yes, I’m being serious and not am not judging in the least bit but even at the gym I’ve seen some pretty experienced people get jammed up with free weights.
I’ve seen stuff happen with just a 45# bar and no plates on it because the human body is tricky at times and simply doesn’t want to do what it’s supposed to do hence people get hurt.
Even something so small as a bicep tendon being stretched too much can set someone back a few months or even a year or so. The muscles, tendons and ligaments and other soft tissue (not to mention the ulnar nerve) surrounding the elbows can and often do get damaged from seemingly nothing at all.

Don’t get me wrong at all Hal. I believe in free weights and use them daily at the gym but benching without a partner or someone close with even a bare bar can do some damage if your body decides not cooperate.

You’re going to do what you want anyway especially since I’m the one suggesting it but do ask your trainer at the gym about it and see what he or she has to say about it.

I’m only thinking about your safety Hal. I’d like to see you stay fit for another however many years you have left on this earth and not get hurt. Heck, I’d be suggesting the same thing to an 18 year old and they have more time to heal up than you do.
