This is a diffult one to post. Had a great time on vacation and returned safely. Next morning, while putting things away, I suddenly started having problems. Cold sweats, felt dizzy so I sat down. Started to feel compression in my chest. Woke the wife and off to the ER. Long story short, I had a Heart Attack. The Heart Doctor was right there, so they prepped me for a heart stent. Everything went smooth. Spent the night in the hospital and was released. Heart Doctor said in my case, no real signs it was coming, stress test this year was ok and blood work was to. Normal blood pressure and my A1C was 5.6 Also said I came in good time, so no real damage to the heart. Just years of living the good life caught up with me. So I guess the diet change is now a must and taking things easy for a good while. Just wanted to post this and get it out there. Probably be posting more since I can't do much else for a while.
Wow! Sorry to hear of your incident, @Tim Burr. I am very glad you came through it okay, and that it was preceded by a vacation to remember.
Thanks @Don Alaska and @Gloria Mitchell, for the kind words. Guess I should have quit working just a little sooner.
Glad to hear that you are all right. Hopefully, this is just a little tap on the shoulder letting you know it's time to make a few changes like swapping the Mac and Cheese for some steamed broccoli Wishing you a speedy recovery!
You can believe my diet will change, wife is already working it out for me! The only food I dislike is chicken, but I'll learn to like it I'm sure. I'm not a big salt person or spicy foods anyway.
What an awful shock and scare, @Tim Burr , but glad to hear that you were close enough to get right to the doctor and have medical attention. Thank goodness, it didn’t happen when you were on the road and driving and not close to a hospital, and it is maybe a good thing that you took the vacation when you did, too. If it had happened sooner, you probably would not have gotten to take the vacation; so if you were going to have a heart attack, it seems to me like it was the best set of circumstances possible for it to happen in.
I am so sorry, Tim. There can, of course, be a long life after a heart attack but I do understand the impact. Thank God, you got care quickly and are okay.
Oh wow, how did I miss this?... Good grief @Tim Burr , I bet that scared the life out of you, thank god, like others say you were able to get to a hospital quickly enough. Do please take care of yourself, I'm sure you will now, but it's certainly a wake up call for you... Excuse the personal questions but are you overweight, were you already stressed?
@Holly Saunders I'm not really overweight and had no other health concerns. 5'11" and 165 lbs. Had a stress test this summer and blood work was in the normal range. Walked 3 miles a day, 5 days a week. I had just quit my job and enjoyed a great vacation. Felt really good. Heart Doctor said it was just a build up over the years. Sure was a wake up call. Already on my new diet and feel pretty good. Just a wee bit of depression, but I'll work through that.
Well that's a wake up call for all of us Tim , if you can have that just caused by a 'build up''... when you were not overweight and exercised regularly... of course you're going to be depressed who wouldn't, that's totally understandable , but with good care and following doctors orders, you'll get through this without any other incidence..
