For most of my early life, I wore ball cap style hats. One of the exceptions was a sporty straw hat, similar to this one, in the early 60's.

I don’t wear hats anymore, unless it is just a knit cap to keep my head warm, or one that is part of a warm coat; but when it is that cold outside, I try to stay inside, so I usually do not need to wear a warm hat anymore. When I was younger, I was always out riding my horse, and wore my cowboy hat, if I wore any hat at all. This is the picture that I sent to Bobby when we first met online and were writing back and forth to each other.
My father always wore a straw hat like that for "dress up" occasions. He had 2 most recently, and I saved them thinking I might wear one, one day, but the size is way too large. A friend of mine also had a large head size, and gave my father an expensive fancy dress hat that he (the friend) only wore once. My father also only wore it once---to a funeral. A bird flew over and did a number on it. Poor hat.
I've worn a lot of hats over the years. Air Force Dress Blue hats, flight caps, sqaudron hats; Olive drab, forest, desert, etc. My favorite one is my Red Horse ball cap. Now I wear ball caps with my teams logo during football season. Wear this one for St. Patrick's day.
Has anyone ever crocheted or knitted a hat? I tried crocheting a simple one like this, because I wanted a hat with ear flaps. It was so itchy it drove me nuts. Finally just bought a pair of clamp on ear muffs.
Ha ha - no, I cannot knit Nancy, for some reason I end up with more stitches than I started with I'd love a hat with 'ears' - mine are not that good ! @Nancy Hart
