I eat my peas with honey I've done it all my life It makes my peas taste funny But it keeps them on my knife
Ahem, no oxtail anything for me and know it. Ugh. Let's see, mixed food combinations. After years of eating boiled hot dogs my palette said 'no more', so I baked them now and top them with a variety of condiments once even with crushed potato chips over ketchup and mustard. We grew up on grits with sugar and butter which people I know gag at it. It was just hot cereal to us before going to school. I still eat grits that way even for dinner. Sweet and salty combination with pork chops baked or fried. Mashed potatoes with cheddar or pepper jack cheese. Just a few of my favorites.
I love grits, Von. My favorite is cheese grits but I have eaten plenty of them with just butter, salt and pepper. They are so good with eggs. I never cared for sweet grits; I prefer them as a savory but I love 'em. Mama usually made oatmeal when we had hot cereal, and I still like oats on a cold day.
Johnny always had grits without sugar until I made it. Being a southerner through and through it was hard getting him to even try to eat any other way.
This is the only way I can eat it. I've tried freezing it when "in season," but cannot tolerate the soggy texture. Until pretty recently, I always bought fresh veggies and steamed them. These days I'm more ambivalent about "fresh" because who knows how long ago they were picked, and canned & frozen are usually field-to-processor pretty quickly.
Ditto, though I prefer roasted asparagus to steamed. I just toss with a bit of olive oil, salt, pepper and a squeeze of lemon juice at the end.
Icksnay the oxtail.@joh Brunner please tell me you weigh 98 lbs and have high metabolism ? With all the food recalls going on, even produce, we are almost veggie free. Had to use canned carrots in my stew today, still very good. Have not had asparagus in 2 years. Up here the price and quality are reason. But love cooked with onion, bacon saturated in olive oil -via skillet. Mayo or Kraft salad dressing on crackers comes to mind as tasty. Not since childhood have I eaten that, As a kid milk in my Kool Aid... why I do not know.long before Shirley and Laverne I still love me beans as a side dish. Mark say oh makes me-- yeah, everything you eat makes you- ya know Gimme a beans and a tater. I will never go hungry
I like roasted asparagus too! I roast bundles of 3 pieces wrapped in a half slice of bacon sometimes. Tasty!
That's as disgusting as my Pennsylvania relatives putting milk in their Pepsi. Tell me about this. I love asparagus, and have only have it steamed or roasted. Do you blanch the asparagus before you fry it? Do you just use bacon fat, or do you fry strips of bacon with it?
