I just watched The Outlander ( not to be confused with Outland ). Both are sci-fi movies.

I've watched a lot of sci-fi movies. The Outlander is the best I've ever seen. Free on Youtube.

Btw, Adblock and/or Adblock Plus are both free to download and use and will block Youtube ads. I have both installed on Firefox.

    Voyage Of The Damned
    Voyage.jpg

Sometimes a short story, novel, film, piece of music, or poem can help shape your weltanschauung. Among the many distortions of history that we were taught at school, we didn't learn of the real geopolitik of the pre-World War Two globe. Rampant anti-semitism and/or support for Adolf Hitler was common and rising thoughout the world, including in the United States of Amerika.
Voyage Of The Damned is based on the historic facts of an ocean liner's voyage from Germany to Cuba, where the passengers are solely Jews that the Nazis are letting escape from Germany. The passengers are a mix of professionals and common folk, some being released from the labor camps ( which were later to become death camps ).
The cast is a who's who of major American, British, German and European stars, among whom is Max Von Sydow, as ship's Captain, one of my all time favorite actors.
I'm not ruining any mystery to give a brief synopsis of the story, no more than revealing the outcome of the war itself would be a spoiler. It is, after all, in its broad outlines, a recounting of history. The fictional threads of the film are the recounting of dramas from individual passenger's lives and experiences - things the authors could not know in detail. There is no plot as such, unless one includes the purpose of the Nazis in letting these Jews escape in such a public and publicized fashion.
Cuba had been accepting Jewish refugees, but reversed its policy before the ship arrives. The United states refuses them, as do all other countries. The Nazi government has set them up, to show that if no country accepts them, then the Nazis are not to be blamed for the subsequent fate of the Jews in Nazi controlled areas of Europe and the USSR. The logic of this seems twisted and somewhat escapes me. I found once again, when confronting the facts of this era, that it's interesting how much more transparent governments were back then in their manipulation of people. The German ministry which handled propaganda was called the Ministry Of Propaganda. How refreshing!
Here is the sad part, which takes place after the end of the film. Eventually Belgium, France, Holland, and the United Kingdom each agree to accept a share of the refugees. All of these countries except for Britain are eventually occupied by the Nazis and their Jewish populations deported to camps where few survived.

This one is just right for the season of Halloween......... Not for the Sound of Music Crowd but more for the classic spook and puke people. Not for children of course so use your own discretion. Let's see how many tap out first. The first listing was in spanish so I got another and it has two movies , the first and then the second release. I didn't really like the second one but on your listing under the screen you will see the original and the second on top of the first, kinda silly but just tic the lower listing in blue and you will have the first release, the best I thought.

I didn't understand this movie or why the evil Gestapo would want to send them on the ship to begin with. It's not like they were hiding their plans.

Well Al this is a senior forum, so I got mixed up. Either way the movie although full of famous actors didn't really make sense far as why the Jews were on the ship to begin with. Or if it did I didn't get it.

I looked that movie up just the other day Marie. I heard the song on the radio and it reminded me about the movie! Funny the things that come into my head, well, not always funny ;)
