Righteous Brothers Before I catch up on the posts, I just have to post these three videos. I wanted to listen to the Righteous Brothers, so off I went to YouTube, and what do I find but a 2016 concert. Now, I thought I remembered that Bobby Hatfield died of a cocaine-induced heart attack just before a concert. But in his verbal preamble to You've Lost That Loving Feeling, Bill Medley is sure makin it sound like that's Bobby with him on the stage. I think, "Mandela effect" and I get all happy that I misremembered, and Bobby Hatfield is still alive! So, curious to hear how they are all these years later, I start the video, and I ended up almost crying. Bill's silky, thundering, and sexy voice is shot. This "Bucky" person is not old enough to excuse him for his part in the murder of this song, Bobby apparently IS still dead, and I remember once again that much of growing old just sucks. So, in a panic, I rushed off to clear my palate. And clear it I did. I found a clip from Shindig in December of 1964. Much better, though bobby spends a lot of time looking like he'd like to be elsewhere. Then I went back to a video I found while looking for the real McCoy with Hatfield and Medley. This one is also from Shindig, and it must have been while they were broken up, because Bobby Hatfield there but Bill Medley is now gone. But it's Unchained Melody, for heaven's sake, so who cares? I will mention that apparently the person who uploaded this one feels the need to criticize the act? Here we go:
Up, getting ready to head to work; so a little Lee Ritenour ( Captain Fingers ) Trying out a new Bluetooth wireless headset. I always test audio equipment with Jazz and Classical music.
Oh yes indeed, I have a HUGE eclectic musical taste, and yes Classical too...I'm not keen on any kind of Rap music..nor really heavy metal... My favourite is Folk, above all else...but otherwise I love music for everything it offers, and my life would be very dull without it...
I ALMOST FORGOT!!! I also love the Great American Broadway Musicals by Rodgers and Hammerstein, such as: South Pacific Oklahoma Carousel The Sound Of Music The King And I State Fair And the immortal Showboat! (By Jerome Kern) I also like the British Gilbert and Sullivan operettas, such as: HMS Pinafore (Sheer fun!) Pirates of Penzance The Mikado (I even have the album of "Hair"!) Oh yeah...I also dig the Righteous Brothers too. Nobody else has their style! Hal
me too regarding the musicals...I loved musicals when I was a teen and it wasn't fashionable among my peers to like them... Righteous brothers are OK... but they could never beat the Everly brothers!! of course the EB's were my mums' age and I took very little notice of them as I was growing up..knew their songs from the radio but that's all .. I was too cool for school, they were ''old fogies'' my mothers' age..but as an adult I came to know them and their whole life story.. and I love them, well, R.I.P Phil ( my favourite out of the 2) , but Don is still strutting his stuff at over 80...
Ms. Tanega was a substitute at various times during the early 1970s at the all-girls school where I went. (Actually, it was a convent, and I didn't "go" there as much as I was sent there by a judge. But I digress.) She taught English and English lit when our normal teacher Miss Seamans -- whose married name escapes me -- had "duties" to attend to from a project she had helped to start up called Sesame Street, the concept of which was quite strange, involving children and their ability to recite TV ads word-for-word. Ms. Tanega told us about her cat who she named Dog, and that she had written a song about the cat called "Walking My Cat Named Dog." Being that we were in an environment where we were not allowed to watch television or listen to secular radio, we were all mystified by the claim. It wasn't until years later that I heard the actual song.
That's really interesting, Michelle. Thanks. Cat Named Dog was the only Tanega song I ever heard, until recently. Loved it when it came out. It was just a cute happy little song. Her other music is a bit dark, to me. Born in 1939, looks like she may be still going strong. "She is full of creativity and has several art and music projects going on. “Retirement” is a word that is not in her dictionary."
I don't know what happened to them, but I have a cassette tape of them. They're into Jazz Comedy, and there are lots of videos of them on YouTube! Check out one of their best : "Java Jive"! Hal
