Good for you for not using artificial sweeteners!!! I refuse to eat them. What's safe today is the subject of tomorrow's Class Action Cancer Lawsuit commercials. My ex mother in law was addicted to cyclamate back in the day. She would get terrible withdrawal headaches. On the other hand, I had a friend who was into healthy eating way back in the early 80s. She told me that sugar is refined with formaldehyde, but I can only find formaldehyde as a byproduct of aspartame, with no reference to it in the sugar refining process. It's the same reason I'll eat butter but never margarine or a "butter-ey spread."
Pork chop so fried... leftover veggies and potatoes from last night and a pre mixed salad with avocado dressing. That will have to do for tonite.
That's funny, tonight I plan on making Honey Pecan chops with baked beans and brussel sprouts...and a salad.
I can't stand "diet" anything. A diet soft drink makes me shiver with that disgusting after-taste. I have never been able to enjoy anything with artificial sweetner. I suppose if I were diabetic I'd have to make some changes, but if I want something sweet it will be sugar. I can tolerate margarine but I never buy it. I just love the taste of real butter. In a totally unrelated topic... I recently read that scientists are finding chemicals from sunscreen that leach into people's bodies. For years I have refused to wear sunscreen; I could not imagine that smearing myself with a chemical compound is healthier than plain ole' sunshine. Also, I am the only one in my circle of friends who does not have to take a Vitamin D supplement. I make sure to get 20-30 minutes of sunshine a few times a week.
I've been drinking artificial sweeteners in soft drinks since Tab was invented in 1963. Switched to Diet Coke in 1982. Switched to tea and Crush a few years ago because I got tired of lugging 2 liter bottles of Diet Coke from the store. Discovered by accident that the secret to the taste, like in tea, is to mix two different kinds. "...Saccharin exerts a substantial synergistic effect on the sweetness of aspartame. For example, a mixture of 20 mg of aspartame and 4 mg of saccharin is equal in sweetness to either 45 mg of aspartame or 35 mg of saccharin if used alone."
Today the hubby picked up Chick-fil-a on his way home from MIL's house. So I had a "cool wrap" and a lemonade; he had a chicken sandwich and waffle fries.
