I prefer the real Mc Coy too Beth, but with this virus thing going on our dining room has ben closed and they bring the residents meals in a simple bowl or plate to our apartment. No nice table settings and service until restrictions are lifted, IF EVER
I had a rather large lunch (hot dogs, baked beans, slaw), so tonight will be salad, then soup with cheese & crackers. I've been experimenting with different cheeses these days from the Murray's cheese kiosk at Kroeger grocery store in town. Rather good stuff. They have a display with end-cuts, so I can try small quantities of really good cheeses at a reasonable price. Tonight is Humboldt Fog. Sells for $40/pound, I got a one-meal piece for $2.50.
That price was on Murray's website. I just looked at the wrapper. It's $29.99/pound at Kroeger. This was a goat cheese. It was certainly different. It's an interesting thing. Murray's started in Greenwich Village in 1940 as eggs & dairy. They opened a Cheese Bar restaurant in Manhattan in 2012. I've looked at the menu. You can get things like Mac & Cheese with any high-end cheese you like. They have their own cheese caves where they age their cheeses...it's a very respected brand. In 2007, Murray's put kiosks in Kroeger stores. Kroeger acquired them in 2017 as a wholly owned subsidiary...the women who work the kiosk are employees of both Kroeger and Murray's. They have taken cheese classes (Murray's also offers them to the public.) The cheese arrives in wheels and they cut/weigh/package it right there. The women who work the kiosk told me that one of their cheeses I really like is actually exported to France! They've taught me a lot...really nice people. It's weird, you would expect this in Whole Foods, not Kroeger. It's the primary reason I started driving into the big city once a week to shop. Kroeger has way better produce than Walmart and Food Lion, but it's a 25+ mile drive one way (versus 8-10 miles), so was not worth it just for lettuce. The cheese swayed me. I kinda look forward to trying something new each week.
It has been cool-ish and raining all day, so I got a container of taco soup out of the freezer for dinner. Easy-peasy.
We had roast beef, mashed potatoes, green beans and zucchini with onions and mozzarella cheese. Tasty.
I had Shepards Pie for dinner tonight. It's only the second time in my life that I have had it. Pretty good stuff.
