I cut up a leftover steak, sauteed some mushrooms, heated them in a gravy, then poured it all over egg noodles...with peas on the side. And a salad.

I went two-course last afternoon and semi-organic. In remembrance of Alonzo, I will post photos.

I've wanted Applebee's ribs (mostly for what I do with the leftovers) for a couple of weeks now, but it's a 20+ mile drive each way. So I went to Walmart and bought my first ever pack of pre-cooked/pre-sauced ribs.

    I got these:

We'll see how they are. Online reviews are all over the place. I feel guilty...I should have fired up the grill or the smoker and made some real ones, not baked something from a package.

Anyway, I made some slaw and I have the oil heating for hush puppies.

I have never bought those, but I have occasionally picked up the pre-cooked deli ribs at Kroger. They sell them along with the rotisserie chickens and they aren't bad.

I've had wings from Giant Food and Food Lion. I like them. I'll keep my eye open for those Kroeger ribs...I'm in their stores once a week or so.

These ribs are just "OK." I like to shred leftoverribs and make quesadillas with sharp cheddar...these will suffice for that if I scrape the sauce off. By the 3rd rib, the sauce on these started to taste like ketchup.

If I get them again, I'll not put all the sauce on them. They bake wrapped in foil so they steam, and all that sauce makes them soggy. I'm surprised there's no instructions to run them under the broiler to dry them out/crisp them up. They would probably be better done on a grill to dry them out a bit...that's one of the options. Of course, they're pre-cooked.

I've lost access to a smoker, so next time I'll likely just buy my own ribs and slow-bake them in a low oven and then finish on a grill. And if there's a next time, I'll be careful to not pierce the bottom of the foil, so I won't have a mess to cleanup the next day. At least it wasn't a 500° oven.

This is my first post in any food thread. One of my neighbors is a black woman in her nineties and she still works at cooking meals for takeout for her friends and neighbors. She fixes a variety of different things each week. This week I ordered two meals - pork chops and (drumroll) chitlins. I've never had them before. Has anyone ever had chitlins and did you like them? I have lots of southern genes so I think I'll like them.
