Anybody with an Eastern European heritage will know what Pierogis are. They are Dumplings, and can be either boiled or fried, but I always like mine with a dollop of sour cream on each dumpling. My mother cooked Pierogis frequently, as she was born in the Ukraine, and that's a common, popular dish, along with stuffed cabbages. Nobody I know cooks them, but you can buy a package of 'em, (either for boiling or frying) in the Supermarket. They're called "Mrs.T's Pierogis" I wonder if Anthony Bourdain ever had a plate of 'em... Hal
I'm sure he had @Hal Pollner. I used to buy Mrs.T's when my kids were younger...they loved them and so did my husband. Think I even bought him some after the kids were grown. Not something I buy myself. It's a treat for me. I think they still carry them....should have gotten that after my mammogram instead of the Amy's single serve pizza. Next difficult thing I do...pierogies will be my treat. Maybe even sooner cause now I have a craving for them.
Papa John's "The Works" Pizza. And tomorrow will be from Chili's. Father's Day weekend and we both get treats.
A few photos of some of the meals we had while in Pereslavl Zalessky This is called a beer plate with a mix of fish garlic bread and onion rings etc... A rabbit stew I had A beef stew we both had one day A fishcake dish Lisa had ..... A dessert we both had three days running, it was that good it's a baked seasonal berry pie, served with ice cream, its baked while you wait, about 30 minutes and served in the red hot pan sizzling.... Mmmmm It's called Shanezhka which doesn't translate..... the berries were raspberry, strawberry blackcurrant and another local berry, not sure of the name..
It is another scorcher day here again today. Supposed to get t-storms but it does not look like that will transpire. Anyway.... when it is hot like this, we usually opt for just cold food and don’t cook much. I had some cauliflower that I wanted to use up; so I cooked that along with a few potatoes, and made a cauliflower-potato salad for later, and it is in the refrigerator chilling right now. I used up the last of my almond milk yesterday; so it is time to get out there and milk those almonds so I can have more fresh almond milk for my iced coffee smoothies. Bobby is setting up the little backyard swimming pool; so in another day or so, we can be out there floating on our little air mattresses....... YAY !
The last time I had rabbit was in Greece about 10 years ago, but sadly this one didn't taste as good as my memory of that one as a child rabbit was a weekly dish which I always looked forward to, my gran would would skin them, and we would take the dried pelts to our local council office, and get paid for them, because they were regarded as a pest in those days.....
Mmmm...thanks for the reminder of potato salad. Love cauliflower and that's a good way to use it. I'll leave out the potato...maybe a little sweet potato... I already went to the store but now I might go again...no cauliflower.
When we lived in Chicago we had Greek friends and the wife would make a rabbit stew that was delicious. Later in Indiana we also had some Greek friends and Anna was a terrific cook (maybe even better than me). She also made a rabbit stew...also ate goat at her house for the first time. Greeks are great cooks. Although I'm not fond of lamb, that even was good if Anna made it.
Dang it @Yvonne Smith ...I don't like going out this late in Fresno, too hot but I can't stop thinking about the potato salad.
