Ok, no bashing what my mother used to feed us kids. I don't think I've actually "ever" used Jiffy Mix. I am happy for you that have your own gardens and are good cooks I fall short, and this is going to cause trouble, I see it coming, wait for it!! I've used Krusteaz, and I'm so ashamed
Jiffy mix is sweet... and tastes ok if you like sweet cornbread. IMO Cornbread is not supposed to be sweet.. real cornbread is supposed to be savory and eaten with black eyed peas, pintos.. or greens with pot liquor pored over it.. Maybe some diced sweet onion on top too.. YUM.....
Us folks is jus tryin to edjucate you Denise. My Aunt Jemima can solve all your cornbread problems. ust get a bag of her self rising cornmeal mix and follow directions. Warning: she does offer an option of adding a bit of sugar....Don't do it.
k sheldon, thanks fer bein so k'and. Ah do boil water real good, and momma al'ays tole me din't need no sugar cuz I 'as so sweet al'riddy
Well, I'm from the South too, jus South of Roseburg Oregone, and it wasn't no insult to me since I was hungry and I 'et what was put in front of me, or nuttin.
My favorite vegetarian meal? Yeah, my wife mentioned a couple but what my wife does not know is that....I...Bobby Cole, am a devout vegetarian. Yes, I am a vegetarian,......at least......by proxy for the most part. Just about all of my most favorite dishes are comprised of those food stuffs that were at one time vegetarians. My beef, pork, and venison were all vegetarians which can't be said for the chickens or fish for they do slip once in a while and eat worms and bugs but they can be forgiven their trespasses and be called vegetarians too ....by proxy. Yup, life is great when you're a 100% certified and bonafide vegetarian (by proxy).
I love spanish rice and refined beans! I add some vegetables like onions and cabbage to our spanish rice dish. I add string cheese and cheddar cheese to my refined beans. We have a mixed fresh veggies of manoa lettuce, carrots, cucumbers and sometimes spinach. Sorry, but mine is from the package and can.
yes, I do. I've used one most of my adult life, and I agree they are the best. Neve Hi Krissttina, I'm always glad to see you post I would be very interested in your recipe I love rice, but I have never had Spanish Rice. I thought of you today when my gal-friend that lives on Kauii sent some pics of her orchids etc., on Facebook This recipe of yours sounds yummy, and I would just "wrap" it in one of my flour tortillas. I'll have to look up Manoa lettuce, don't know what that is, yet And did you mean refried beans? I know what those are for sure hugs, denise
from http://andreasjanitzki.de/assets/manoa-lettuce. In supermarkets locally we buy them for 3.29 to 4.99 depending when they are in season and if we've been getting enough rain. This is a very delicate lettuce that melts in your mouth. Lighter in flavor than your butter lettuce almost looks like butter lettuce too.
Oh wow, that looks yummy!! I've learned the greener the better We must get it over here on the mainland. I'll have to check. Also, I remember having Pineapple when I was in Hawaii. I DO remember because it was beyond anything I'd tasted on the mainland, soooooo delicious!! I guess I should be cooking some supper soon This is making me very hungry, LOL!!
I remember that sometimes in the summer, my mother would serve corn on the cob.. That was it.. just corn.. I thought it was a marvelous treat... but thinking back, we didn't have a lot of money and corn was cheap... Still.. It was a great meal.
I love corn-on-the-cob, nothing better, than the real deal I like to cook it in foil, w/butter and some seasonings over a campfire (pit) when I go to camp They say corn is the enemy because it doesn't digest well, WELL, I don't care, it tastes so good
