I've been wanting to see this movie for quite a while. Last night, the stars lined up, and I had a 75% off coupon via Google Play. I have been using the Google Opinion Rewards app on my cell phone to make a little money. I actually love the app. It's an easy way to make a little money, and it adds up fairly quickly. Since there's no cash out option, I plan to use that money for entertainment, which is sorely lacking in my life otherwise, so it's a rainbow in my cloudy sky. I had enough money accrued to pay for it outright, but I used the coupon, and it was very cheap, something like $1.30 to watch the movie. From the trailers I'd seen ahead of time, I thought the movie would be pretty lighthearted, although set in Afghanistan, but it was deeper than I expected. I enjoyed the unexpectedness of it, and particularly enjoyed the ending. Here's a link to the trailer, in case anyone is interested.
I, too, thought the movie would be funny. But doesn't Tina Feys character eventually come to like the adrenalin rush of the chaos and fighting? Isn't that the true crux of the film? (I haven't seen the movie)
Yes, that's part of it. I don't want to give the plot away, but she does go over there pretty much to escape her humdrum existence, and definitely gets a charge out of being in the thick of it, but then learns that that's not real life, and that she wants more. I was afraid it would be too politically correct for me, but it wasn't.
