You can post the recipe here if you like, @Nancy Hart , or in the recipe section, whichever you prefer. Since this thread is specifically about fruitcake, I think that posting a recipe here would be totally appropriate, but either would work fine. (I promise not to merge it, no matter where you post it, honest)

    Mrs. Harvey's White Fruitcake

My mom used to make this at Christmas. It isn't really like other fruitcakes except it's heavy. Less than 2 cups of flour and weighs 5 lbs. It doesn't have any of the bitter stuff, like orange rind, citron, rum or liqueurs, not even spices or brown sugar. Only cherries, pineapple and pecans.

The recipe was first published in the Tampa Tribune in the 1950s. I think the newspaper still publishes it every year around Thanksgiving. Any size pan will do, and may cut down on cooking time.

Maybe I'll make one this year. Goodness knows I need more tempting food around.

This time, Walmart did have fruitcake on their online website, so I ordered one, half expecting that they would say it was out of stock. We actually got the fruitcake, it is delicious, and we have enjoyed having a piece of fruitcake with a fresh cup of hot coffee.
The one I ordered from ebay has not even been shipped yet, so I messaged them and asked why not. If they do not send it pretty soon, I will say that shipping was very slow when I give them the rating.
I ordered it a week ago, so there is no reason that it should not have been shipped by now. The information said it should arrive here by yesterday, when I ordered it, so it is late and still not even shipped.

I just read the entire recipe. It really bakes at 250° for 3 hours??? And you put it in a cold oven and then turn on the heat? How interesting...

WOW, now I am really, really happy !
The walmart delivery people just stopped by and left us two more Claxton fruitcakes . These have more of the fruit and more flavor than the other one I bought.
I can’t find anywhere that I ordered these two fruit cakes from Walmart, in any of my last few orders. Might they somehow be the ones which are supposed to be being shipped from eBay , and the ebay seller had them sent to my house by Walmart ?
It is a MYSTERY ! Anyhow, we have fruitcake, however we got it.

I read a couple of things about this practice (EBay seller places the order with Walmart to drop ship to the EBay seller's customer.) There's a dark side, but it does not affect the buyer (you.)

I just checked the ebay website, and it still shows my fruitcake as not being shipped. What would they do if I canceled my order since they have not shipped it for around a week, and not responded to my messages to them ?
I am not going to do that, but I can see how that could happen if they have done this same thing and other people are upset because they didn’t recieve their order, and it was not even shipped a week later.

I always do the little walmart surveys that they send you after you order, and I think that I did grumble because they didn’t have any fruitcake when I made the last order before this one.
So, maybe it was Walmart, sending me out a fruitcake order because I complained ?

    Edit to add:
I just looked at my ebay order again, and it says the shipper is UPS, so the one I received from Walmart has to be something different, since it was delivered by a walmart delivery person.

There are 2 scenarios when EBay sellers do this:

1-The seller is not in possession of the goods he advertised, and has them drop-shipped from a retailer after a customer places an order. The seller pays the retailer with the seller's credit card. This is legal, but it violates EBay's rules for a seller to advertise something he is not in possession of.

2-The seller is committing fraud with someone else's stolen credit card. As above, the seller is not in possession of the goods he advertised, and also as above, the seller has the goods drop-shipped from a retailer after a customer places the order. But in this case, the seller pays the retailer with a stolen credit card. So the seller makes 100% profit, and the buyer received the product, so the transaction is complete. The retailer loses out if/when the cardholder notices the fraudulent charge and there's a charge-back to the retailer.

This second fraud scenario shields the seller from being caught using the stolen card because the seller is not using the card to have the stuff shipped to their address...things charged on that card may ship to many buyers.

It would be appropriate for the buyer (you) to complain to EBay because the seller is at least violating EBay policy by selling a product they are not in possession of, and they may be involved in credit card fraud. Either way, the buyer (you) are in the clear, unless the seller uses your card to execute this fraud with someone else.

Now I have to go back and review my Walmart credit card charges from online purchases. I just skim past "Walmart" on my bill, since I know that I buy from them all the time, mostly at the store. I read that Amazon is also used to place these drop-ship orders through.

edit to add: Some buyers have noticed that the stuff drop-shipping from Walmart is more expensive on Walmart's website than the price they paid the EBay seller. I would think that's a red flag that there may be fraud involved, since the seller pockets 100% of what the buyer paid, since the product purchase is put on a stolen card.

How can an Ebay seller use a buyer's credit card? As far as I know, the seller doesn't see credit card info but the transaction is processed through Ebay (or Paypal, etc.)

Also, how do you know the seller is selling something they are not in possession of? They might just be a slow shipper. A lot of assumptions being made.

1-Regarding the credit card...you are correct, the EBay buyer's card is safe. My bad. The Seller is using a stolen card they got elsewhere, and is using the EBay system as part of their fraud.

2-You know they are selling something they are not in possession of because it is purchased from Walmart and delivered to you by Walmart. Walmart is not delivering something shipped by the seller.

I am not following your logic. Yvonne stated that Ebay does not show that her order has been shipped, so obviously the two fruitcakes are not her Ebay order shipped from Walmart. What am I missing?

Fruit cake is kinda like a pound cake. Cold baking promotes smaller air pockets by actually lengthening the leavening process.
The lower top temp and higher time helps with the caramelization process throughout the fruit cake.
