I dated the lead singer of a very well known British Band when we were just teens in the early 70's.... it was a short romance, and he definitely wasn't my celebrity crush!! Instead, I always had a crush on .. Eric Stewart, Lead singer from 10cc... on the right of this picture. I have worked in showbiz for decades, and met many wonderful people, some others who I crushed on too..but I never got the chance to meet Eric or any of 10cc... Ironically, and unconsciously, I married my second husband who in his younger years was the image of Eric Stewart
About 10 years ago or so, my wife and I took my mother to a lecture at a local university. Richard Dreyfus was giving a talk. It was in a small lecture hall, very intimate. And after the talk, Richard Dreyfus was milling around and talking with people. My mother was very bold, went right up to him and said, "Sir, you are even more impressive in person!" Without missing a beat, Richard Dreyfus looked her dead in the eye and said, "Yes, I know.." I don't know how to convey, in just words how funny he really was. Just lightning quick was the thing...you would never have expected a comeback or something so quickly.
Living in NJ, near NYC, a lot of us tend to encounter celebrities. I had a fun one with the actor Eric Bogosian. I was on the lower West side of Manhattan, when I saw Eric Bogosian come out of a building. He saw that I saw him and he ducked back in the building. I walked on. I happened to look back...he was waiting for a moment when I didn't see him (or so he thought) and he immediately ran out of the building quickly!!! It was a bit comical to watch.
I have a rare talent for running into celebrities. When I say "running into", I mean running INTO. Not just meeting, but being knocked down by. I was knocked flat by Hulk Hogan at Disney World. My fault, I wasn't looking where I was walking. Running into him was like running into a brick wall. I was also running down the back stairs at the newspaper I worked at, turned a corner and ran smack-dab into the actor and comedian, Godfrey Cambridge, who was there being interviewed. Nobody fell down that time, thank goodness. I did get kissed by singer and actor John Davidson once. I guess that was an encounter. I was walking on air for days. You know teenagers.....
In this chronological order: -Annette Funicello -Shari Lewis -Hayley Mills -Pia Zadora -Dawn Wells -Barbara Eden After than I moved beyond the "crush" years, although Ally Sheedy sort of briefly reinvigorated them. The crush that shall never die is Ingrid Bergman (For Whom The Bell Tolls)
As a teenager, my crush, and most of the other boys had a crush on Annette Funicello. A bit later , it was Cher. I don't know how she did it, but she kept getting better looking with every passing decade.
