Sorry, Lon, but I can't cut or chew Steak unless it's Tenderized, like Country Fried Sirloin. Also, you wouldn't pay for the wine...that's just talk! Hal
I can get the buzz with a little Jack Daniels or Chivas and not worry about sweetness. Winos love Port & Muscatels for that 18% alcohol content.
I like Port because of its alcoholic content, sweetness, and low cost! While not in the same social and economic class as a Wino, I like Port for the same reasons they do! Hal
In addition to the three Gourmet Quality Meals per day that are paid for by my monthly rent, the facility also has both red and white wine available for the evening meal, both alcoholic & non alcoholic. The Problem?? The wines are BOXED WINES & a real insult to the culinary skills of the Executive Chef. I am the only resident that seems to notice this disparity between the food & the wine. I like and enjoy wine but am no wine snob. Since I have every week a printed copy of the meals I can plan ahead for the wine I might enjoy with that meal and take my own bottle. I don't drink the entire bottle and take the remainder back to my apartment for later enjoyment.

Boxed wines... oh, the horror. (I don't care for wine, so as long as there's no "boxed beer" I'm OK with it.)
Lon, this boxed wine stuff reminds me of the time my gf and I went to visit her friend in Palm springs when he moved there, he invited she and I for snacks and wine and when he brought out the box I almost choked. This guy was about to and has inherited millions from his now gone mom and boxed wine. I can't imagine. I'm no snob but if I'm going to drink I want quality.
I didn't know one could drink alcohol at a long term care facility. No wonder the wheelchairs are running amuck! They are just rolling in for the party!
I'm not a wine conno-sewer, but I'll soon be older too...on 7/11, I'll be 83! I'm on the way to passin' YOU up, Lon! Hal
All the apartments have kitchenettes and residents can keep food items, wine, beer & liquor if they wish. All the evening meals offer white & red wines or you can bring your own as I often do.Their are House Rules re: decorum & inebriation.
