Okay, I have an Apple Watch. My wife bought me one for Christmas. We do the gift exchange on Orthodox Christmas, not because we're Orthodox but so that we can take advantage of the after-Christmas sales. It was extremely easy to set up, but I still need to learn how to use it beyond telling time. It's charging and updating the software right now.
The best part about them is when you get a phone call you just look at your watch to see who it is, and you can answer it or send it to voice mail. No more scrambling to find the phone. The only thing I've encountered that might be of use to you is that each face accepts certain "Complications" (weather, compass, moon phase, elevation.) So if you have specific Complications that you want, you gotta find the faces that will accept them. That helps narrow the field of which faces to start with...there are so many. I initially set up 10 faces so I could have all the Complications I wanted available to me, and haven't changed anything since. I've not installed any Apps, either. The main challenge is just when you get used to what short touch, long touch, swiping, the bezel and the button do, they do an OS update that changes them all around. (Well, it happened once.)
I am really happy that you got an Apple Watch, @Ken Anderson , and it was an awesome gift from Michelle ! It might take a little getting used to if you have gotten out of the habit of wearing a watch, but they do so many good things that you will soon be glad you have it. One of the most important things (and why John Bruner decided to get one) is because of the safety features. If you fall, or pass out, the watch will ask you if you fell and if you need help. You can tell it you did/didn’t fall , and that you do/don’t need help. If you pass out and fall , and can’t answer the watch, then it automatically calls for help from 911, and also alerts your emergency contacts. Since you are often outside working in the yard, or walking around, and have fallen several times, this is going to be a good thing for you, and will also give Michelle peace of mind. You can initiate a call just by asking the watch to call someone, so even if you didn’t fall, but need help, you just call the person you need. I did that when working out in the yard and needed Bobby to help me with something. Even if he does not have his phone, he is wearing his watch, and will get my call. You can also take an EKG, check your oxygen level and monitor your heart rate. If you wear it overnight, and have a sleep tracking app, it will tell you what is happening to your body overnight, too. There are a lot of health apps that you can use if you are interested in that, as well. Bobby and I use ours all the time when shopping and needing to find each other in the store. I carry my phone in my purse, but Bobby almost always leaves his phone at home now, and just uses his Apple Watch instead.
So far, I have learned how to tell the time using my Apple Watch. I'm a little worried about it calling the cops on me because I tripped over a log.
Another thing I think Yvonne and Bobby said that they use is the Walkie-Talkie feature. That means you and another Apple Watch person can give each other permissions to use your phones like walkie-talkies rather than calling/ringing/answering. That may or may not be a good thing. Regarding your learning how to tell time: analog or digital? It makes a difference. Analog means you can tell time. Digital just means you can read.
Did they reinstate the oxygen meter? My 6 has it but my 9 does not. Some kind of patent dispute or something.
Yes, the Apple Watch Series 10 has the blood oxygen sensor, but the feature is currently disabled in the U.S. due to a legal dispute with Masimo. It may be re-enabled in the future if the legal issues are resolved.
I like that I can see the video from the Ring camera on my watch. So if I'm sitting at my sister's in Georgia I can observe porch pirates walking away with Amazon purchases 800 miles away. Of course, my eyesight is so poor that I can't actually make out anything. I'd need a TV screen strapped to my wrist.
Mine was a 6, and the new one that I just got is an Ultra, and it has the oxy sensor on it. My daughter has had that for a year or maybe two, so it is not the latest version. She is getting a brand new one, so I will ask her if it has it or not. It does not make any sense that it would be disabled on the Series 10, and still work on other models of Apple Watch ? Are you sure it does not work ? I just checked the Ultra and it works fine for me, and was working on the Series 6 just fine, too.
You can barely see my tiny garage at the end of the road. There is a house on the left and one on the right where the trees stop (2 brothers and their families.) The guy on the right has a Ring camera. Every time I drive in or out, he sees me on his Smart Phone. (That reminds me...I gotta buy a Sasquatch suit.) Re: Apple Watches: Another cool feature is the ability to view your iPhone's camera screen and to be able to control it on your watch.
One thing I hate about Apple products is that, for me at least, they always default to Cupertino, California, Apple's corporate headquarters, so my Apple Watch and my computers will show me the temperature in Cupertino, California. No matter how many times I change that, within a day or two, it will be back to Cupertino. I have to ask specifically for the temperatures where I am. Although my iPhone accurately tracks me wherever I do, it always gives me the temperature in Cupertino, as if I care.
Mine have not done that to me, although I cannot figure out exactly where the Current Temp comes from. It's always a few degrees off any website I look at, including NOAA. Every weather website uses the data from our county airport...except apparently Apple Weather. I guess you've gone into the settings for the weather app and deleted Cupertino. It's weird that all your devices do that.
I've had Macs since 2008, and I've never been able to leave Cupertino for more than a couple of days in a row.
Beth I don't even try to see the phone screen anymore, by the time I figured out to use that watch I my not need it anymore.
