That is 100% correct, Faye. About 10 miles west of the city.

Hiya, y'all, I'm back from vacation at the Jersey shore. My son lives there and we had a great time out on the boat for a few days. The ocean was quite calm I must say.

    Jack: "I'm ry-cheer, y'all!"

It doesn't bother me when someone is from (born/raised) Oklahoma, Texas or one of the other southern states, like Tennessee, but when they aren't, I wonder. I had a friend who was born/raised in Oklahoma, moved to So. California and kept her Oklahoma draw/accent. She didn't say "ya'll", but definitely had a southern draw/accent.

However, if a person talks with a southern draw/accent and says "ya'll" in Southern California, there are those that don't like it at all. Same as here in Colorado. A southern draw/accent, when heard, can be teased about.

If they get teased then they haven’t paid the Ya’ll Tax. Like the tax placed upon carbon footprints, if one has paid the tax then everyone is happy.
I am especially careful to stop at the Welcome stations on the borders of those states where the word isn’t recognized as legal wording and pay my Ya’ll tax just to be safe and possibly add to the global warming fund.

Note: The Ya’ll tax is only good in the U.S. and its territories.

Virginia is my home state. We grew up with “y’all” and I still say it. I can’t recall anyone ever having said anything about it. We’re in Maryland now.
