Here I am at the end of June 2020 thinking about the years since I retired. With the COVID19 going on and nothing else I certainly have the time. After the death of my wife Mary in 1989 I decided to work a few more years and then retire, and then did in 2,000 at age 66. I have had a exciting, challenging and rewarding 20 years with no complaints.
I am so glad that I retired 26 years ago and did not have to struggle with COVID. I had a fantastic 26 years.
That's Impossible for me. I will be happy with just a good 12 months that don't have to be fantastic.
Seniors that have a nice size pension and/or SS income, plus their savings, basically have it made right now.
I think you’re generalizing Cody. “Having it made” has different meanings for different people. Having a big pension and a big bank account doesn’t mean that the person is as free and healthy as someone who doesn’t have as much material wealth. Sans wearing a stupid mask when we go to a store, we’re healthy enough that we can do what we wish, when we wish and how we wish with none to say the different. A lot of retired folks who have amassed wealth cannot say the same thing. Whilst looking at an older lady at a teller window, Rockefeller is quoted as saying that he would give all of his wealth just to have the health of that old lady. Personally, I’m very happy not to get Christmas cards from the IRS.
Like others, he made very wrong choices leading to very bad results for millions of people. He did it apparently to gain or to keep "all of his wealth". He might have 'gained' good health if he started doing what that old lady did, doing what is right, but like the rich young man in the Bible, he walked away sad. He(Rockefeller) still preferred (and chose) the money.... (and maybe the approval of his 'rich' (with money) friends ? He wouldn't, or didn't , give that up)
