@Mary Stetler -Nooo this thread is about changes we make to for ourselves. Plus this is political and does not belong in this thread. @Yvonne Smith - could you move Mary's post please ?
I always plan to get more active physically, but since my fall, I have a hard time doing it and the will is getting weaker too. Who knows? Maybe 2024 will be the year?
@Don Alaska - start small, move more even if only inside. Being physical does mean you have do a 'work out'
I also need to get moving a bit more, before I grow roots in this recliner. I have slowed down so much that I should be ashamed; my little trampoline is getting dry rot. Motivation Status: Lacking
There's a lot of that going around just this morning we went to a store in the village, there was no parking out front or on the side of the building I went around the block twice looking for a parking space, my wife said on one of the trips around "there's a space" it was on the rear of the building, I said no " I'm not walking that far" instead of pushing myself I drove home.
Don I didn't know you fell, how long ago did you fall? Heidi has the right idea to start slow, build yourself up. That would be a good New Year's resolution. I have to do the same thing maybe we should start a thread to report how our progress is going, it could be for anyone who wants to accomplish something, just a thought.
It was a number of years ago @Tony Page. We just passed the anniversary of the catastrophe in 2014. I broke my back, then was mishandled by the medical people here and nearly ended up paralyzed on dialysis as a result. I think God helped me avoid the disaster that almost resulted.
Sorry you had that experience but if you believe God helped you then he helped you he's helped me a few times I believe that.
That was especially true of the kidney failure in my case, as the nephrologist was getting me set up for dialysis, my kidneys spontaneously began functioning again.
What a wonderful story I truly believe God helped you, that's why I believe in 2024 make this the year you work on your physical condition to improve your stamina and strength. My wife says I've been getting into a depression lately, and she's right my motivation has been diminished, hearing your story has given me the desire to do something about building my physical and mental strength. That will be my resolution for 2024 to start some minor exercises to at least get back to where I was a year ago.
Late November is always a tough time for me from the emotional side. It is getting dark so quickly here, and most of the bad things I have experienced have happened in late November. I hope your depression lifts @Tony Page and the world looks brighter. We both have spouses to help us deal with things.
I have been trying myofacial release for almost a year and even tho the progress has been small, I felt this was the way for me. This is the third practitioner I have gone to and after a couple of months I have been able to start to move my leg a little bit. Not painlessly but with less pain to allow me to move my leg at all. I am now waddling around the house setting my cane down occassionally. Unfortunately this causes me to lose my cane as I can't remember where I left it. But that is a good thing and I get more exercise going around trying to find it. I have been adding short exercise times daily. Slow and steady wins the race.
