Interesting that the folks who claim to be "saving democracy" are trying to do it by limiting voters choices to those who satisfy the Establishment's needs, not the populace. The entire thing is a disgrace.
If we had out limited/enumerated powers Constitutional Federal Government, it wouldn't matter if they never even showed up to work. This is insane that the Fed in general has amassed all this power, and that the White House has wrested control from the Legislative branch...and nothing is done to stop it.
I think Congress has ceded power to the Executive Branch that it was never intended to have. Bureaucrats don't run for election, so Congress gives them the power to make unpopular decisions, so the Congress people can tell their constituents, "I didn't know that was what would happen!"
We are easily distracted and the media knows it. We can't possibly keep an eye on what 'our' reps do. They don't write the 3000 plus page bills themselves, let alone read them and now it seems after causing an invasion of our border, those in charge actually WANT to start WWIII
FINALLY! The Supreme Court on Friday agreed to consider former President Donald Trump's bid to toss out a ruling by Colorado's top court removing him from the primary election ballot. The move comes after Trump on Wednesday formally appealed last month's 4-3 ruling by the Colorado Supreme Court that marked the first time in history that Section 3 of the 14th Amendment was invoked to bar a presidential candidate from the ballot. Colorado's high court found that Trump played a key role in the Jan. 6, 2021, riot that disqualified him under the clause. Arguments in the case will be held on Feb. 8. https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/...-to-weigh-trumps-removal-from-primary-ballots —— It’s about time!
If the courts do not reverse it, I think Maine Republicans will simply be going back to a caucus system. The State persuaded them to agree to a primary system after Maine Republicans chose Ron Paul over Mitt Romney as their candidate in 2012, only to have half of the elected delegates replaced at the GOP Convention in Tampa. That was a bad decision then, and I wouldn't mind seeing it return to a caucus system. State governments should have zero control over party politics.
Colorado Republicans have said the same. As I have read the 14th Amendment, it specifically does not mention the Presidency. I guess he could be considered an "Officer of the United States", but Congress is specifically mentioned and ELECTORS for President are mentioned, but not the President himself. It also refers to "Males over 21" Maybe Colorado wants to enforce the entire thing and make only males eligible to vote if they are over 21. It would certainly be a different country were that so.
During the Obama administration, Congress ceded its lawmaking job to the SCOTUS which was fine with Obama because he had his phone and pen to institute regulations. Now, as you wrote Don, the Executive Branch is not only writing regulations but attempting to make law. Congress does nothing but form committees that form committees.
Colorado certified the primary ballot yesterday WITH Trump’s name on it. https://www.cbsnews.com/colorado/ne...dential-primary-election-ballot-trump-ballot/
They had no grounds for an omission. If Trump was left off, the upcoming law suits would have cost Colorado gazillions.
The RNC really fought dirty then after Ron Paul jumped through all their hoops, they changed the rules at the last minute before the national convention. I always thought this country would have been set right if he had made it to President. He was not an isolationist. He was for trading with countries, not forcing them to how we wanted 'democracy' to be.
Not even before. They changed them during the national convention, giving half of the properly elected Ron Paul delegates a choice between committing themselves to vote to nominate Mitt Romney or being replaced. I was a state delegate and friends with several of the national delegates. I haven't participated in any of the primaries since then because I refuse to register as a Republican.
