I know, I know, probably nobody on this forum is interested in any part of Wyoming, Montana or any surrounding states, but we sure are. The nice/nicer parts of Colorado have gotten extremely expensive to live in and extremely populated as well. Colorado most definitely isn't the same Colorado we lived in from June 2002 thru Oct. 2007. But, in August 2019, we were extremely glad to leave northeastern Florida and go back to mountain views, big bull elk and freshwater lakes of Colorado. But, it has taken us three years to figure out just how much the area we knew before has changed.

Anyway, have already reserved a medium size SUV, like a Nissan Rogue, to drive to northern Wyoming. Have also reserved a nice hotel room, just outside Sheridan for the five days. This will be our first time in northern Wyoming, but have been in Cody before when we went thru Yellowstone N.P. (Upper/Lower areas). Have also been in Laramie and a few times in Cheyenne. Cheyenne is really "big city" and growing rapidly.

Will we end up moving to Wyoming? Very good chance of that, but a visit will verify that much more.

Any members here been to Wyoming or Montana?

Yes; we have been to Wyoming a few times. These are pics from our RV windshield, traveling along I-25 from Cheyenne to Sheridan. We've spent a few days at a campground in Sheridan before traveling on to Montana.

My little dog, Harry, who'd nap on the dashboard... (also on I-25)

We've also been to Montana a few times. I love the area around Billings and Red Lodge.

There are plenty of mountains in Wyoming, mostly on the western side. (Grand Teton National Park, Jackson Hole, etc.) The pics I posted are just a small area of the state where I-25 runs.

Definitely a YES, on the pictures!

The "biggie" moves we've had, since getting married in early 2001: So. California to Englewood, Colorado (apartment), then to our house in Parker, Colorado (10 miles south/southeast of our Englewood apt., then sold the house in Parker and moved to Huntersville, NC for a year/two months, then down to Jacksonville, Florida for 10 1/2 years, then back to Colorado (but the northern part this time) and now (perhaps) up to northern Wyoming. When we moved back to Colorado, I drove the entire way back. Stopped at a hotel each night, but the next morning, I was behind the wheel, driving again.

It is 5 hours from where we live, up to Sheridan, but for this trip, my wife will help me drive up and back.

He was the best little traveler, Cody. (That dashboard is deep and padded, plus I had a cover made for it so his toenails wouldn't scratch the vinyl.) He peed in more states than most people ever get to see in their lifetime. :D:D Here he is on an interstate in Arkansas, giving me the "gotta potty" stare-down. His face is in shadow so you can't see his eyes...

One trip through Wyoming, it was a couple of days before the Sturgis Rally and the freeway had literally hundreds of motorcycles for miles and miles. It was really a sight to see since most of the time on that stretch of highway we'd never pass a car.

Now that is most definitely another cute one of him!

When we lived on what is called "Southside" Jacksonville, Florida, there was a Harley Dealer not to far from us, right next to the I-95 freeway. A couple of times a year they would have the Light The City Ride motorcycle run, starting at the dealership, crossing over two bridges over the St Johns River and coming back to the dealership. They had a JSO (Jacksonville Sheriff's Office) escort both in the front and rear. Many absolutely beautifully lighted-up Harley's and all of the JSO vehicles/motorcycles had their emergency lights on as well. We'd stand across the street from the Dealer and watch all of them come out onto the street and head for the freeway. It was stunning and beautiful!

So what do you plan to do while you're there? I've not moved often in my life, and would not know where to start doing recon on a new place.

I guess you've got a list. What's on it besides scoping out apartments (are there many choices in Sheridan?)

Here's a City Data forum where people are talking about moving to Sheridan and getting responses from folks who live there (3 pages of responses.) Of course, it's one data point written by folks you've never met. But you might get ideas on what to pay attention to.

edit to add: I see posts on there that look like you wrote them. Small internet, huh?

It cracked me up, too. I was pretty sure, but then when I saw a comment begin with "IOW," I knew I had my man. LOL, indeed.

I'm glad to see the guy doing his research. I did the same thing before moving here, but on a different site.
