I made some polenta not long ago. It never occurred to me what it really was. I may have overcharged myself

How to Make An Onion Pie Served with a salad it can be a complete meal. This pie freezes very well when cut into pieces and frozen separately. Simply place pieces in your toaster oven for about 20 minutes and it taste like you just made it
That reminds me of the onion sandwiches my dad used to eat. Just a thick slice of Bermuda onion (do they even have those anymore?) between a couple of slices of buttered white bread, with salt & pepper.
Being the highly suggestible person that I am, I could not get Scrapple off of my mind because of this thread, so I bought a pound of it. I've had it twice in the past few days. Dredged in flour and fried in a combination of ghee and bacon fat, couple of eggs on the side. So very good...
These are the kinds of recipes that convince me I live in a whole different world from everyone else. Mushrooms have such a delicate unique flavor. Why would you put onions and tomatoes on them? ( Where's the garlic? Did I miss it? ) . Might as well use potatoes. Much cheaper. We used to pick them, fry them in butter, and eat them, one by one. Not as a meal, just as a special treat between meals. Maybe she had so many of them around they became boring. I wish. On second thought, this is a depression meal thread, so I guess she was trying to make a whole meal out of a few mushrooms.
If that's a Depression meal, they may have picked the shrooms themselves (I picked morels as a kid in Indiana) and stretched them with other stuff to make an entire meal. I love sautéed mushrooms. They used to be butter-only for me, too. Then I started adding Marjoram when they were just about done. WAY better.
